oh, we gonna play that game... ok, I'm game? :P"Hey Logan, GM called again, something about another dangerous part on your new to you Saturn Aura being recalled due to it being able to kill you?"

Nah, the Vue, Safari, or Silverado haven't had any recalls recently. Thanks though.

All are still running like a top as well. Not a single issue.

That's why I was talking about the Aura...Speaking of GM recalls, how many cars have they recalled so far? about 3.15 million? is that right?

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > PetarVN, GLI Guy, now with stupid power

The Aura has had one recall for 4-speed transmission models, which were very few.

Do I need to bring up the Stop-Sale on nearly every VW model for a while because of some sort of malfunction with the 1.8T?

Which 1.8T? The early 2000's one? yeah, go right ahead!

I just think that you should know that in the past 6 months 20,000,000 GM cars have been recalled :D

Nah, just recently.

Notice how most of those cars went out of production over 4 years ago though.

Just saying, we are both behaving like such stereotypical brand fanboys right now! *Sniff* I'm so proud of myself! Let's just agree that both of the brands are unreliable, and agree to tell people to buy W123's if they want reliable transport!

40k i would add a cement floor to my barn, buy a garage door for it and build one awesome project car that would wipe the floor with that golf. And still have money left.

I can't say GM isn't reliable. Dangerous, maybe. But unreliable, never.

ok then..
. http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/16/new… So yeah, I'd rather have VW stop selling cars for a while than have a brand sell badly built cars, and then wait 5 years to tell people about it
Also, I hope you're not taking this reliability pissing contest seriously. I will be the first to admit VW's are unreliable and break. Heck! the Beetle I learned on had it's floor pan falling out, and the '91 rabbit diesel my dad had caught fire for no reason!

Yeah, you did :P
I will give you that GM has made some kickass machines over the years, si I guess you can forgive a few mistakes here and there...

Their engine could also survive a nuclear winter. They've fucked literally every aspect of a car up at one point, except the engine.

Unless it was those 80s diesels. Or that 8-6-4 Cadillac motor that was just bad .

Love the car, but you can get so much for that money. Like a Boss 302, a used Cayman, an Exige, a used C6 Z06 (slight stretch of the budget), etc.

None of which are a practical hatchback.

I could get an Ecoboost Mustang w/ performance pack with $12k to spare for that practical hatchback.

Or a 2013 WRX STi practical hatch with $10k for what ever I wanted.

to each his own. two years after buying my Golf R I don't regret buying one over an STI one bit. I'd rather have the tuned Golf R. And the only 2015 Mustang I'd buy would have the V8.

And STI's were never $30k new. Ever.

Standard price for an R I can live with, even if I do think it's a little high, but once you go over that I would say you get diminishing returns.

Also, I exaggerated on the price, but you can get a used STi for not much above $30k.

well if you're talking used then that's completely apples to oranges. Likewise, same as talking any discounts below msrp. I got my Golf R new for $31800 (base four door). You can get low mileage 2013 R's in the high 20's now.

The Golf R was worth it to me because I would have specced out a GTI with the full autobahn package anyway. I like the leather and climate control. So a few grand more for a K04 turbo'd FSI, bigger brakes and AWD was a no brainer...especially since it has the headroom for 370-380 horsepower on the stock turbo and stock engine internals.

I love Audis, but I'm not spending over $40k for a 60k+ mile Audi that is out of warranty.

Yeah, probably not the best move. CPO all the way if you're going that route.

I spend $40k on a 40k mile BMW with 6 months of warranty left - that paid off, and I picked up EasyCare TotalCare to get me to 85k. We'll see if it way money well spent. Either way, I sleep better knowing that a problem would be a $500 bill and not a $5000 one...

The M3 is the exception. It seems to be the most robust car BMW has built in a long time, and I want one that badly. After I find a house, I'll look at the market more closely.

Very, very thankful about that. Only thing that worries me a bit is the rod bearing chatter I hear from time to time (but it seems to be blown out of proportion some). I'd like to keep my car for a long time, so I might just pay to have them replaced at some point down the line as preventative maintenance.
