I can find tons, tons and more tons of history about Le Mans from 1923-39, and from 1949-present, but there's very little I can find about those years where the important work of racing was pushed aside because some asshole wanted living space (fuck him).

I'm guessing that very little attention was paid to the purpose-built racing section, and probably only slightly more attention paid to the remaining public roads sections. That's fair, I just was wondering if there was some sort of history that includes not only the circuit, but the city of Le Mans during the war and rebuilding period as well.

To my knowledge, they didn't have the purpose-built sections (i.e. Bugatti circuit) until after that period, IIRC it was all public roads at that point.

Dunlop, the Esses, up until Tertre Rouge were built specifically for the race by the ACO in 1932.
