There is a 1993 Miata LE for sale with 155kmiles for $3,900.

It seems like a fair price for a rare model. I'm tempted, as I have never owned a fun car.

Seller's Description:

Only 1500 cars made. Brilliant Black. 155K miles. This is a California car recently relocated to Seattle area so the body is solid and no rust. Enjoy the sun and wind while getting 29 mpg.

LSD, R package suspension, ultra lightweight BBS wheels (with centercaps and wrench), ABS brakes. The body is in good condition with no rust and only a couple of door dings. The seats are in good shape, the AC blows cold, working original MSSS stereo with anti-theft cover but the CD player is sporadic. The only issue with this car is the front fender has area with peeling of clear coat and wear of the leather on steering wheel and nardi shift knob. The top was replaced 4 yrs ago with a Robbin stayfast cloth top with zippered plastic window and is in good condition. Fresh Michelin tires. 2 sets of original floor mats. Passed smog. A rare version of this fun model. 3900$

That price seems high with that mileage. You mention that its a rare model, but it doesnt look in collector shape so why spend the premium. I paid 5k for my Miata with 52k miles 2 years ago, but to be fair it is a base model. I got mine because I had never owned a fun car and I have loved every minute.

LSD and fresh tires (if they are fresh) I think makes this worth it. As long as there are no major expensive things that tend to happen at this mileage.

I think the price is too high and the seller is misrepresenting what he has. The car seems to be speced higher than an R and it isn't an M. If it is an R check to see if it still has the bilsteins. Also make sure to double check all the maintenance records the owner has. some research on Miata.net wouldn't hurt as well if you plan on getting a Miata. they are fun cars to own but there are plenty out there so don't jump on the first one you find. Also, the mileage negates any rareness value. Any of the special editions get treated like a regular miata when they get up in that mileage range. Happy hunting.

I just picked one up a few weeks ago; different rims, but a real fun economic car. If you can talk him down 4 or 500, I would say it's a solid buy. Just be sure to check for oil on the transmission, oil pan, and up top near the firewall.
