Forgetful Cannot Into GT Academy

Kinja'd!!!4 Kinja'd!!! 29

Feeling like Mr.Bump this morning, I'm absolutely spent. I wore myself out trying over the weekend, but it wasn't enough. I finished 7th in Canada and did not make the top 4 to advance to the semi-finals.

I drove right up until the cutoff at midnight, trying to catch that one perfect lap, but it just never of happened. I'll have to "take pride in the effort" and "know that I did my best". Ugh.

Kinja'd!!!

Sour grapes, but if I were in the US I'd be 33rd, outside the cutoff of 28, but close enough to actually make the cut once the exclusions are factored in. Pro drivers, previous finalists and people without passports aren't eligible. Being that there are only 4 spots for Canadians it's unlikely there will be enough exclusions for me in 7th.

Awwwwww. Still, that's pretty good. A lot closer than I'd ever get.

That's too bad, but you really do have a lot to feel proud about, way to grind until the end!

My mother called me (and still sometimes does) Mr. Bump because I'd run into so much shit as a kid.

If it's any consolation the Toyota guys and Porsche guys had to take pride in their effort and know they did their best at Lemans. Keep it up. If you're that close you really do have a chance.

So to qualify do you have to be using certain equipment on your console? Something more than a gamepad, I would imagine?

GT Academy is an online competition with the video game Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3. It was a time trial competition with a GT3 spec Nissan GT-R race car at Spa-Francorchamps. The top 4 Canadians and 28 Americans go to New York for semi-finals and race against eachother (still video game). The winning 16 of them go to the finals at Silverstone Circuit.

The finals are actually GT Academy where they put the best sim-racers through a training camp with physical challenges and competition in real cars. The winner of GT Academy is then signed to be a professional race car driver on the 'NISMO Athlete' team.

There were 4 GT Academy drivers racing at Le Mans this weekend.

COOL!!!

Sorry about my ignorance, I know nothing of video games really.

Video games are good for something!! Good luck, honestly, if you're that competitive, keep it up.

You should probably just sell your stuff on ebay and find another hobby. You just aren't good enough. Just give up man. jk

I normally don't root for the misfortune of others, but I really hope there's a way for you to make it, Forgetful. I tried chasing one of your older attempts (2:16.6xx and couldn't catch it myself.

Why only 4?

Maybe they'll have an X-Factor slot where they'll take another top-flight driver. I hope that's you.

Thinking good thoughts for you,

Revengel

Any TRC in the top 6 or in the US top 40?

You can use a basic controller, but anyone serious is using wheel and pedals. I think each of the last two years someone made the semi-finals on a controller, but I don't think that's the case this year.

Thanks! No need to apologize. Sim-racing is a pretty nice hobby and most people don't realize how competitive it is. The GT Academy program has proven to be quite successful.

Looks like one in 36th place in the US. He'll probably get to go the semis. I was .030 faster than that.

Thanks Revengel. I really appreciate the thought.

I wanted to make it on merit, but I don't look gift horses in the mouth.

He actually qualified for the finals last year but didn't make it due to not having a passport in time.

Then kill it next year. This is so successful they aren't going to stop. I doubt most of us could even get that close and it'd be awesome to have somebody from Oppo make the competition (much less win it.)

Yeah. Have had 3 other finalists as well. Chris Roberts (made it to the final race of Season 1) Austin Cobb (made it to the final race of season 2) and Darren Guiao (unfairly eliminiated right away in season 2!)

I know a couple finalists as well. John Wilding, Greg Russell and Chris Mortensen from season 1 and Jeff Stuart and Steve Doherty from season 2.

I know several of this year's semi-finalists, so I'll likely know a few more in a few months.

I'm probably going to get back in to the iRacing groove here soon. I'll have to catch up with you there. I never was able to get up to speed on iRacing, and I was almost burnt out of sim-racing the past few months, but finding my rhythm in GT Academy has renewed the interest, and I think I can chalk up my bad time on iRacing to a TV with terrible input lag.
