Thank you all, I greatly appreciate it.
I talked it over with my partner too, and I went ahead and just sent my dad an email letting him know I'd like to be in closer touch with him. I do kind of feel like he deserves to hear it from me in person and be allowed to react to it. It will make me nervous as hell, but I think it's the right thing to do.
