I'm in iRacing too! EST though, so I'm not in too many races after 11PM EST.

my lap times are 7-10 seconds off of the record times right now during test sessions. Not sure if I should be happy with that with an hour or two of time spent or not lol

Some of the record times were set in better weather conditions. Practice practice practice though! What track are you running in MX-5 this week?

Ive just been doing testing so far. I want to get my lap times to within a couple seconds of the records. I've been doing a lot of Laguna and Lime Rock

Within a couple seconds of the records is ambitious as many were set on older tire physics or in ideal weather conditions and you'll never get close. Go into an open practice in the MX-5 cup and get comfortable running on track with other cars.

I tried that for the first time last night. Pretty damn fun. Still need to work on my consistency. I had some decent laps but then some terrible ones. So more practice! But I should be able to shave a few seconds off at least.

Keep it up! I'm not very consistent, but I can be really quick... Until there's a lot of braking zones, I suck at using the brakes smoothly.

Yeah right now I'm either braking too much or not enough

Found a set up for the Miata, way better now. Should be able to run a gee seconds faster now. Still working on consistency lol

Be careful about that.... The MX-5 cup uses the baseline setup.

Alright. So the completely stock standard one? Idk how people can pull 5 seconds out of that thing when I can't

Lots of practice. What kind of times are you setting on Lime Rock and Laguna Seca? I ask to compare to my times, since I was capable of winning MX-5 races with my times. I let myself down a lot with spins... :(

My best right now is 108.1 at lime Rock, with the mx5. I don't remember what my laguna one is. Been focusing on LR.
With the CTSV my best I believe is 53.

After about 5 laps at Summit Point my best is 1:34 in the MX5

From what I read in the rookie road racing board on the iRacing forums, this week is awfully slippery. My old PB was a low 59, but they changed the tire model again since I last competed in it, and it's pretty awful to drive.
I found a few things really helped me starting out in iRacing:

and the VERY biggest thing that helped me with catching slides and being more comfortable with pushing faster were these tweaks that enable some head movement. Since simulators are mostly visual clues, these tweaks make a huge difference. Do small changes and see how they feel.

Unsure what the weather differences are, but I was running mid 1:24s. If I didn't crash I would win 90% of the time at Summit. My favorite MX5 track, but very tricky.

Awesome thank you! I'm going to practice a bit more later today. If you want to add me, idk how, my name is Brad Sutliff.

Also, I'd recommend keeping an eye on the forums, the fast guys tend to post up replays or videos and you can see what they're doing differently. That helped me a lot once I got over the hump regarding keeping the car on the track. Also, I've been sim racing off and on for a long time, so I have a lot of experience with all of the little differences between real life and sims.

Yeah, I got mine down to 130. I've got the line down just have to hit all of it right. The first turn gets me whenever I try to push hard. Awesome track though.

I always screwed up the quick left up over the hill, or plowed into other drivers into the tight left turn 5 (can't remember the name). Turn 1 was one of my favorite spots to overtake because you can get away with braking in a straight line only without losing much time to the guys that trailbrake in.
