Words I never though I'd say. Also, if anyone knows where to get a cheap paint touch up kit, I could use it. So I asked you guys yesterday how to fix some damage my car had received while I was away. I had two options, hammer that shit out or buy a car bra, and no way in hell I was getting a car bra.

Before:

A tip most of you guys gave was use wood as a buffer on both sides. I tried it, it didnt work. One issue was there are a shit ton of clips and screws on the inside of the hood.

Kinja'd!!!

So in the end, I just hammered the shit out of it. It still looks awful, but not as terrible as before.

After:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Next question, this wheel corrosion. Is it something I should worry about? I've seen it on a ton of other GM cars of the era, but I have no clue if its an issue.

Wait what happened to the front??

And how far does the corrosion go? I would check the inside and remove the tire to check if it were me, I've never heard of a wheel corrosion problem before.

Corrosion should only be an issue if you have problems getting the tire's bead to seal. It doesn't look too bad.

As for the hood you may be able to get a spray can of touch up paint from Pep Boys.

Oh and the touch up kit! I went here for my Astra when my dad rear-ended me slightly enough to scratch the paint up.

This is from when my little sister got rear ended earlier this year. The hairline crack in the first after pic is from when Sawyer rear ended my other sister last year.

Oh I see. I never noticed the hairline in the front. Maybe one of those paintless dent removal places could possibly straighten it out for you? Not sure. I heard there's a good place over in Madison Heights.

That just looks like surface corrosion on the polished surface of the wheel. Elbow grease it off.

Well, since your car is broken and in no way works just fine, you'll have to get a Fiesta ST now.

"What? I didn't say anything about-"

YOU MUST BUY AN ST NOW. JOIN THE SECRET FiSTING ARMY OF OPPO. IT IS YOUR DESTINY. THERE ARE NO OTHER WAYS.

Sorry. Forgot about that.

I'm thinking try the hammer again? but I'd imagine in time, the front would eventually just snap off. How big was the hammer and do you have a pic of the end result from the front?

Nope, not at all. The thing my home calls a toolbox is horribly under stocked in every department.

The sad thing that pic I told you about with the hairline crack is an after picture.

Man, if I wanted to hear all this stuff about family members rear-ending each other, I'd re-watch the first season of Game of Thrones.

Re: the wheels.

It'll either stay just as ugly as it is now, or get worse. The clearcoat has been damaged and has allowed moisture & contaminants between it and the wheel surface, lifting the clearcoat. The ugly marks are a combination of the corroded wheel surface and the fact that the clearcoat itself has lifted from the surface. There's nothing that can be done at this point, other than having them refinished. I had one done years ago ( early '90s Ranger 10-hole with fake rivets = many sharp points for clearcoat to crack), and it went from Canadian junkyard scabby to factory-fresh, but it cost $300 per wheel.

Well shit. I'm thinking paint touch-up is the only way to go from here then. I'd say it's best to leave the crack as is and fill it with some color-correct paint. That website I sent you can get you paint correct to your car you just need to know the paint code for that color.

If you have a much heavier hammer like a sledge, you can use that as a dolly. Really, any heavy and smooth hunk of steel you can place opposite your hammer strikes will work. If you have a Harbor Freight near you and want to be super pro ...

From experience as a detailer, I know the wheel has clearcoat over it. There's no amount of elbow grease that'd cure cracked & lifted clearcoat over top of surface corrosion of the polished base layer.

Before you get after it with a hammer again, watch a few videos on how to do it right:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search…

Then stop by Harbor Freight and pick up an inexpensive hammer and dolly set:

http://www.harborfreight.com/7-piece-body-a…

Then hammer away with the right techniques and tools!

Follow up with a lesson on body filler:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search…

Grab some supplies from your favorite parts store and bondo away!

Then google some videos on painting, pick up some supplies, and paint away!
