from the Boston Public Library collection. Local news pegs it between 1930-1945, but just judging by the faint cars, it looks later. Anyone want to take a stab at it? OPPO...Enhance!

My guess would be 47 based on the text written on it.

I always think everything could be a trick… which is why I'm still alive.

It looks like some later 40's cars in that pic.

Well... The Maine Turnpike didn't open until 1947, so I'd guess the BPL or the local news is wrong.

This looks like a '47-'48ish Stude.
The car in the distance - no idea, looks almost Beetle-ish. If it *is* a Beetle, this is '49 at the earliest.

then it would be past '50 because I think they sold 52 or so in '49, and nowhere close to Maine. It damn sure looked like a bug to me though.

Well, let's assume the fading-in and initial surface scabbing on the road surface probably indicates several years of age and we'll note that the mid-road seam is not filled in with debris or worn much.
Given that that style of rear window carried on with some Studebaker models until '52, I'd strongly suspect that would be around the right time for this photo - even if we assume both cars are new, which by no means has to be the case.
