They're outside of the 25 year import law, and they're relatively inexpensive in Britain if you look hard enough.

I just want an old hot hatch, I think that's it. I should find an old GTI or something.

Now, I like the old Fiesta XR2 - it's scrappy, and I like round headlights - but if you're going to import an old hot hatch, you might as well do it properly...

On second thought, don't. If you lot start snapping them up, they'll get more expensive.

I am actually considering getting the hot - or, well, honestly, it was more 'warm' - Fiesta of the nineties as my next car. They're fun and cheap.

No more so than the XR2, really. I mean, okay, really nice examples will command a premium over equivalent XR2s, but they're easy enough to find. It helps that most of them haven't rusted to pieces.

The Peugeot's more of a true hot hatch classic - it regularly tops 'Best Hot Hatch of All Time' lists and the like - but the relative rarity of the Fiesta means examples can be had - if in slightly shabbier shape - for the same sort of money.

All the ones that appear to be on 'okay' condition aren't old enough to be imported into the US. Stupid 25 year rule.

Also, thank you for that link. That gave me a website to look up cars in the UK that's better than any of the other website I've found.

Just checked it out, height and width are about the same but the escort has a 4" longer wheelbase and is 16" longer overall (aka a trunk) with about 100 more pounds added on.

Do it, get one. This was the first hot Fiesta. At a time that the Fiesta ST is really kicking off in the U.S. having it's ancestor would be quite a thing and could soon command a premium not to mention a very back to basics seat of your pants car.
