Ugh, guy at my work: Where's my free car, I want my free car, I paid for it.

In reference to GM/Chrysler.

Because that'll teach them a lesson...

Personally I want a Ford too, but that's just because I like Ford. This guy was admittedly never a Ford guy, but after this bailout he's all about Ford.

It's like some other people I knew that won't buy Japanese electronics because they, the Japanese, helped the Germans in WWII.

Hopefully they never used an IBM computer. Or use any Bayer products, like aspirin or Aleve. Or use any Siemens devices, which can be damn near anything from MRI machines to coffee makers.

Etc, etc.

Haha, exactly. Also forget about using any financial institutions for your mortgage, 401k, investments, probably at some point it will be handled by some institution that got bailed out.

I'll take a B52 with mid-air refueling capability please, so along with that I'll also need refueling service. I shall then live in the sky for 1 year, right after I convert the plane to have a bed, shower, bathtub, living room, home theater and a massage parlor.

Admittedly I never used to be a Ford guy, but especially after the bailout and the GM ignition recall fiasco, I won't ever stop at a GM lot to look at anything. Chrysler I had all but written off, but all of the sudden the new Jeep lineup is reeling me in.

I'm very interested to see what FCA does with Dodge over the next 10 years. If they play their cards right, they could be reeling me in as well.

Sure non-bailout has a certain allure, but at the end of the day I'd still consider GM or Chrysler. Everyone seems to be plagued with recalls these days.

GM has done things to lose my business. They know what they did and they're not sorry.

They were poised for a death that didn't even warrant a bailout, because their vehicles were so bad that they would just fail again and again. Thankfully FIAT came and improved their fit, finish, and overall quality. Not to mention they have cars that are somewhat interesting now

I had a 97 Chevy in high school, and that thing made it to 130k miles before a mechanic totalled the car because he deemed it unsafe to drive. Fuel system was junked, the strut mounts had mushroomed, the fuel tank fell off, wheel studs broke, door locks broke, interior fans broke, alternators crapped out on me, I had a swaybar that broke, the AC clutch went out, the exhaust system developed a leak, the intake manifold cracked, and I had a blown head gasket.

Not that me saying this will change your mind, but I'm going with Ford. Not just because of the bailout thing, but because they're actually making cars I would consider owning someday. And that's about their entire lineup actually.

While I disagree with applying experiences with a '97 to your current '14+ buying decision.

But I do agree that Ford has an awesome line-up and it has many cars that I'd consider owning, depending on my needs. When it comes to trucks there is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't consider anything other than a Ford product.

Another cool thing I hear is that Ford is the pickiest about tolerances/parts being within spec, out of any automaker making demands on their key suppliers.

Kinja'd!!!0

Yes, it was a bit unfair to compare my former car to a car that's nearly 20 years newer.

What you mentioned about tolerancing is interesting because I have a friend who is a mechanic at a local Ford/Lincoln dealer, and apparently a ton of MKSs were rejected and sent back to the factory because panel gaps were far too large. That was apparently a project that was rushed so fast internally that there was little/no quality control.

Ah interesting.

I found this out because I know some people that frequent some of the parts suppliers and they are always bitching about how tight Ford's requirements are. I also known an engineer that works on the air intake ducting at a Ford supplier, and he says the same thing, the supplier he works for also supplies to the big 3.

I've been a Ford person since the 1980s. However, I still cross shopped GM products. While I did buy a Pontiac G8, I don't think there is anything they have right now that I could afford and want.
