I fully support and encourage this comment. I've driven somewhere around 80 cars, with 99% of them being normal, with the exception of a Gallardo and Vantage. Fastest after that was a 335xi.

E30 M3 is me fav, I would daily an E39 M5 if I had the $$ and didn't live in NYC where I take the subway to work every day.

Now, when you say drive... Do you mean you drove them around, took them home etc.? Or do you mean you moved them around the lot? I would not consider that 'driving'.

I didn't list cars that I only moved around the garage here. I consider at least 10 miles a drive. Some where as short as from CCC in lower manhattan to a dealer in North NJ, but most I drove upwards of 50 miles on multiple occasions.

Oh E30 M3. I'd love to have the chance to ride in one one day, especially after seeing Gr.A E30 on rally stages.

And most surprising car?

Absolutely hated the Delorean. Worst car to drive. Though Matt Farah has promised to let me drive his, and swears a newly restored Delorean is a whole different ballgame than the originals.

Well actually, the E30 M3 I drove the most was Grp.A spec. It was so Fugging awesome. Hmmm surprising, I think 2008 Subaru STI was surprisingly unexciting. But then the 2011 STI was the right amount of exciting.

And dat sound. (My father was a co driver on one back in the 80's).

Another question. Most boring car?

And it seems you never got a french car. If you could, which one would you like to drive?

Nice list. I'm keeping track of all the cars I've driven this year, but sadly a lot of them I won't be able to talk about.

As for questions. Was the W8 Passat a wagon? Manual? Either way, how was it?

And how would you compare the RTR Mustang to the GT500?

And any plans on going on a business trip to CCC London? Also you guys need engineers? I volunteer myself!

Kinja'd!!! Jonathan Harper > Jonathon Klein

CCC has an Atom in the fleet, track only. NY state DMV won't register it for the street. It was awesome, I spun it at NJMP's Thunderbolt track within the first 5 laps, but then I got the hang of it. Temp was pretty cool so I couldn't properly warm the tires up.

Kinja'd!!! Jonathan Harper > STREPITUS
06/11/2014 at 11:23

Kinja'd!!!0

Passat was a sedan, automatic. Felt pretty slouchy, but there was a decent sound from the W8 and nice linear power delivery.

I preferred the RTR to the GT500. GT500 has too much power, makes it unusable, whereas the RTR was tons of fun to toss around on twisty backroads, I'd be too scared to push a GT500 that hard.

I actually no longer work at CCC, so I don't know :) Go to their website though and fill out the inquiry form, Zac just might respond.

Kinja'd!!! STREPITUS > Jonathan Harper
06/11/2014 at 11:28

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah. I've heard from people who have driven the GT500, Boss 302 and GT back to back to back that the GT500 is just too sketchy with all that power. Didn't know how a 3rd party modded Pony compared.

And the CCC website says

Classic Car Club Manhattan is always on the lookout for talented, passionate people in all fields. If you're interested in working at the coolest place this side of the paddock, then send us a resume and cover letter for review.

I think I should. Not too sure what an engineer would do there other than be a mechanic on the cars, but we'll see. Can't hurt really haha.

I think the RTR was a factory offering...just a GT with all the Ford Racing bolt-on bits...is what I was told.

They already did. With two people :)

Kinja'd!!! STREPITUS > Jonathan Harper
06/11/2014 at 11:32

Hmmm. I always through that RTR was on the same level as Roush or Steeda. Lots of OEM support, but a separate entity that has nothing to do with the factory.

Looks like you're right, but it is a "dealer installed package"...whatever that means. Small print from the bottom of the Mustang RTR website:

"The Mustang RTR is a post-title modification of the Ford Mustang® Designed by Vaughn Gittin Motorsports (VGMS) and manufactured by Classic Design Concepts (CDC). CDC is responsible for the modification, and Ford Motor Company does not endorse, sponsor or provide any warranty related to the vehicle's modifications from its production condition. Warranty will be administrated by CDC for CDC components and Ford Racing Components are covered by the Ford Racing warranty policy."

I didn't get to drive it anywhere near it's full potential, but it's an intimidating piece of machinery. It has the worst sight lines of anything I'd driven up until I drove the '66 CAV GT40.

What do you think of the V8 Vantage compared with a Porsche 911 or F430? I've read a bunch of reviews and aside from the gorgeous looks and sound, seems like it's a bit lacking in driving enjoyment factor. I have driven the DB9 and it seemed very Mercedes-like, that is to say, competent, but not engaging.

Kinja'd!!! Jonathan Harper > aps360
06/12/2014 at 15:55

Kinja'd!!!0

You're spot on. F430 or 911 will give you a MUCH more rewarding driving experience. The Aston leaves a lot to be wanted in the performance department. If you're looking for a great car to carve some backroads and don't really care about the "Aston Martin" style and sound factor, then you'd be so much better off with a 911.

Gonna resurrect this from the grave but props! If you had to chose, best entry level new sports car <$26K? Best used sports car $40-50K? Which car was the most fun to drive, which car was the most fun to be seen in?

OK...OK, that’s all. I’m also going to tally all the leading ladies of my short post-grad life.

2014 BMW 228i MSport (MT)

2008 BMW Z4 M Coupe

2007 BMW M5 (SMG)

1990 BMW E30 318i M3 engine swap (MT)

2002 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 (MT)

2013 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE (560whp MT)

2010 Ferrari F430 Spider (DCT)

2013 Nissan GT-R

2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S (991 MT)

2009 Volkswagen GTI (MT)

Desperately seeking to add a Cayman and Lotus to that list.
