Kinja'd!!!

New Italian restaurant opened this week, and I went to check it out today. The same family already runs a rather high priced but very, very good restaurant in town, so I quite expected something. Turns out they called it an Osteria and only offer pizze and pasta but I am digressing... When the bill came, they charged me for a much cheaper pizza than the one I had. What to do? Quietly pay that and be a little more generous on the tip, or have them redo the bill in their computer system, which is a PITA? Well, I did the first thing. How long am I going to burn in hell for that?

just go and eat there again, they want your word of mouth and repeat business more than they want your few extra bucks.

Pay the bill and be generous with the tip. They made the mistake, if they realize it, they will learn. Honestly, it's probably not worth making a scene over, and they might prefer that no one knew about it rather than asking for a new check.

I usually just tip the server more and let them know to tell their boss that "one of these bills didn't print out right"

For me it depends on the amount. They forgot a 2 dollar soda...no biggie just pay the bill. They forgot a 30 dollar plate that was half the bill, I'll correct them (and they'll sometimes charge for something less anyway as a thanks for catching it or give you a coupon or free dessert or whatever).

Something like this happened to me on holiday in Stockholm. I pointed out out to the waitress who was as grateful as someone who might have had it docked from her wages would be and gave me a free coffee.

Personally, I'd of gone to them and said this bill is incorrect, them paid with the tip based on the actual amount. Doing the right thing is not only morally correct but they will remember you and that usually means a good thing. I mean what if they noticed their error after you left but also noted that you didn't correct them? wouldn't eat there for a while just in case.

I know it's probably sounding like I'm being all holier than thou but what if it was you, you'd want to be paid for the service you provided and to paid less for that service, wouldn't you feel cheated.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

I would have told them, and then been pissed if they then charged me the real, higher, price.

The thing is, once it's booked into their system it doesn't get deducted from anyone's pay. I paid for what their system thought I had. The actual dish is irrelevant to a computer.

That's a blurry line. You won't burn in hell for sure. I doubt that it would be considered a pain in the ass if you're being honest about it being lower. Sometimes wait staff has discression to comp stuff for various reasons, but I have no idea what the situation was. Either way, tipping on the expected cost is reasonable. The option that would send you to burn would be if you tip the waitress based on the lower, incorrect amount.

True, but in my case the girl charged the wrong amount to my card so she could have been liable for it.
