Seriously, what the fuck?

In the era of happy-touchy-feely with our emotions, it seems the school mass violence hasn't decreased.

I know they haven't released any names yet, but I'm gonna venture to say there's a good possibility that the person involved is probably or was a student at this school.

That being said, I think we're missing the big picture in terms of how certain things are dealt with as a society. A lot of emphasis is placed on not bullying or hazing others. It seems almost NONE is directed towards how to deal with being bullied. I don't mean reporting it to a parent, teacher, authority figure; I mean how we as individuals overcome negativity in our lives. It would seem that this is becoming a lost tactic.

Should we teach not to bully or haze? Yes. Should we not also teach how to be confident as well?

As much as anyone may disagree with the Miss U.S.A. winner's answer to the question she was asked; she has a point....

Was this the one in Seattle? With one kid and the guy dead?

Honestly, this one isnt as serious. It seems like something was happening between the two of them. You dont just go in and kill one person in an event like this.

But yes, I also think things need to change. Ill leave it at that

That is kind of part of the problem. Let people being pissed off. Quit trying to make everything so damned happy, cheerful, sunshiny and good; because sometimes it isn't. Let people get pissed off in small little burst, like what is natural, and maybe they will quit blowing up in one big explosion.

Indeed. Kids on soccer teams where "nobody loses" is just another example.

Nobody loses huh? Tell that to nature.

I have a theory (mind you i'm no expert in the field of psychology) that the rise of this is partly because of the media. Everytime this happens there is a massive media circus and they plaster the killer's name and picture everywhere. And they read of their wacked out manifestos and suicide notes. Now these people are not mentally right (obviously), so they see this media circus and realize that this way they can be 'famous' or that the whole world knows of their suffering (in which case family and friends should have stepped up and reached out). But as with anything this is extremely complicated (though I'm sure the city Democrats will start harpin' on guns (like that is the solution)).

As far as bullying goes I have never been bullied like kids can be now (I'm only 24 but some of this changes so fast), but I have been bullied. In HS I weighed 330 lbs. (I'm 6'2" so I didn't look massive but I was definitely big (don't worry I worked hard and lost 140 lbs.)) I got bullied for that. Made me very angry. One day my bully (scrawny little white guy from suburbs but dresses like a thug) started given me shit in an empty room, so I charged at him, picked up his scrawny ass and threw him over some tables. Never heard from him again. Problem is if I would've been caught I would've gotten in trouble for defending myself.

I agree with you. If you look broadly at the recent shootings, you'll see they follow a pattern. The santa barbara person wrote a goddamn manifesto. He probably wanted the media to instigate all possible viewpoints of the manifesto, and spend major amounts of airtime/words to analyse it. Look at the Unabomber. He blew up people he didn't like to spread his words through his manifestos. And who spread the manifestos? The media. Even my local chinese news station has become increasing CNN-like. Speculation, speculation, and focusing on one thing in several different ways. I understand the freedom of press, but let me reiterate that CNN managed to spend a month talking about a lost plane. Black holes? Why not speculate a giant spaghetti monster ate the plane?

Someone who plotted to shoot decides to shoot like a week or less after someelse does. They want to ride on the "media train". They want to hop on the train at a corner as it slows down, put some coal in the fire, and speed it up again. The repetitive nature is making us become almost numb to these. We have came to the point of asking, "Jesus, again?"

You are correct. The media certainly plays a passive role, and they are one of many causes.
