A friend's family just bought a 2005 Jaaaaag X Type w/ 85 k miles. I am wondering what other options people can come up with for the same price. I will start it off.

Anywhere goes! Ad or no ad, as long as it is possible to get for the price.

Are we posting ads, or just naming models? Either/or

If it is possible to get, with our without an ad handy, it qualifies. I am not gonna get all picky.

Seriously a Xtype?

Nothing against them but why!? $9k is way too much. Hope they are aware of the common problems, and what they could've got instead.

That is a good one. While I would daily it, for a family with multiple drivers maybe not, I would take it if I had the money to spend. I'm loving the ideas I'm getting.

That's it? $.20 more per gallon is enough to twart you? Don't drive any of the cars at my house because that's all they get fed.

Kinja'd!!! thedevilinside > JGrabowMSt

It wasn't my purchase! Last two cars have been premium drinkers. Also, it is a lot more than 20 cents per gallon difference.

Kinja'd!!! CRider > thedevilinside
06/10/2014 at 18:12

Kinja'd!!!0

Premium gas will only cost a couple hundred dollars more per year. It's not a big expense.

Kinja'd!!! thedevilinside > CRider
06/10/2014 at 18:14

Kinja'd!!!0

My last car required premium, current car in some places it says requires 91, I usually go 93. This is a friend's family, not me. I wouldn't be near a Jaaag of this era.

Kinja'd!!! CRider > thedevilinside

In Cali, 91 is the highest octane you can buy.

Funny things about Americans no. 1:

They can buy fuel for half nothing but they baulk at paying a few more cent for a higher grade.

Not gonna lie, the fact that the deal is off is great. They're not spectacular cars. And that's waaay too much.

Why not a WRX? You can get one for the same price. It'll be much more reliable, seat the same and be a bit quicker.

Kinja'd!!! Squid > thedevilinside
06/10/2014 at 20:54

Kinja'd!!!0

I find it funny that that can be a deal breaker when in the long run it is only about $2 more per tank and the fluctuations of gasoline production will end up costing more than just the bump up to premium fuel.

Kinja'd!!! thedevilinside > Squid
06/10/2014 at 22:00

Kinja'd!!!0

It is much more than $2 per tank most of the time, and the fluctuation part doesn't make sense to me. Premium costs more on top of the fluctuation. Fluctuation happens on all grades, so it isn't a factor. Again, the car I drive takes premium. This is not me buying a car.

Kinja'd!!! Squid > thedevilinside
06/10/2014 at 23:36

Kinja'd!!!0

Around me 91 is right around $0.20-0.25 more a gallon, with a 10 gallon tank, it is $2.00 more expensive. If you have a 15 gallon tank it is $3.00 more so in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make too much of a difference unless you have a huge truck tank to fill.

Next time you are filling up see how much it would cost you to fill up with 87 in stead of premium and it should not be an exorbitant difference, the whole premium fuel requirement is just an area for people to bitch about.

I'm saying they should count their blessings before they complain about paying a little more for one grade or the other!

Ralph Orlove wrote an article on seriously depreciated cars a while back. Searching these out would be fun. It would be interesting to see how much more these have dropped since the article was published early last year.
