Karachi, Pakistan: Live actually at a three minutes drive away from it. Country's main and largest, and city's Army GHQ is next door neighbor to the airport. They used the lightly guarded cargo terminal runway to penetrate while simultaneously entering a building and the old terminal.

Update: All ten terrorists are shot dead in which one blew himself up. Army Tier-1 SF Group, SSG Zarar Company and Army Rangers Wing-9 SF [(First responders to the attack) (Pictured above)] took frontline , while ASF took vital positions and Rangers Infantry and Police cordoned off the area in the op.

Precious lives lost of brave security personnel and innocent bystanders.

Update: 7 ASF personnel killed, 1 Police, 1 Ranger, 2 airport and airline personnel also lost. 17 injured.

Update 2: Not a single aircraft was damaged or boarded.

Airport Security Force's (ASF)unsuspecting guards posted on gates, etc were shot dead (Four of them and few Aircraft and CAA (Civil Aviation) personnel lost their lives when the cowardly just kill for being in their way. ASF's special force retaliated as Army's Tier One rappelled in and took over the counter-op within moments while QRF Units evacuated the passengers on board the aircraft.

The attacked airport was the old one, mainly used by only cargo planes and a few maintenance hangars around. Since this airport and runway is lightly guarded, they used it for entry point to the main airport which they couldn't get even close. But the QRF and SSG Units evacuated all planes and passengers onboard to safety.

One bastard blew himself up when they saw the SF in his sights as his companions were being shot at.

So far, this is a complete security failure on Airport Security Force.

Three terrorists dead, seven are surrounded or localized to one zone as Army calls it, while Army SSG would try everything in their power to catch them alive.

The only casualties so far were the brave men who were caught off-guard for just being luggage X-Ray guys.

It is for the first time that I see Pakistani Army SF are operating under the banner of lights. They don't do that usually.

Feel like deadweight right now as SF goes in to kill them...

The main airport is completely safe and secure. They took over Cargo airport(or old one), which is used for cargo, Hajj flights and aircraft maintenance hangars are there, the main security assets are posted in the main airport so they couldn't come even close.

Correction: It's been a rough time since this nation was born.

There's a famous saying here: I don't fear at the state of how things are being run today, I fear that things don't continue to operate this way forever.

Do you think it would be better if somehow Pakistan and India reintegrated?

Oh, wow. First of all, I didn't realise you lived in Karachi, for some reason I thought you were one of the US Opponauts. Secondly, I'm not sure how I feel about getting my news from Oppo, but thanks for the report - much more real than the BBC one.

I'm thinking, though - do you reckon in this kind of situation the traffic cops are still on duty?

Yeah, I saw one on TV on his pretty Suzuki GS500. They are thereto control the traffic as military and government top brass is coming to the spot.

Personally; nah. Pakistan has its own culture now. Many say it because of Muslims on both sides, but one can easily differentiate between Pakistanis and Indians. Don't believe the Pakistanis you see on TV though. Wonder where do they find them. Even Zero Dark Thirty showed us speaking arabic...no one speaks arabic here. Our language is Urdu and then English.

BUT! We must learn fro Europe. We must because this useless border provocations and insults would lead us no where.

I knew you spoke Urdu because of a friend of mine in the US Army. She spoke Urdu and worked at the US Embassy in Karachi on and off. I hope things work out. I want so badly to visit your part of the world, without body armor and a weapon. I haven't been to Afghanistan, but I have been to Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar. I know they are completely different than Pakistan, but I find people in Southwestern Asia to be warm and friendly.

Much traffic out there? Sounds like a great time for a drive - away from the airport, naturally...

(Please don't take me seriously. That would be bad.)

I certainly wish you do because it seems selfish to keep them away from others, as a citizen of a country with such natural wonder of places and historical sights. But what can we do.

When CIA and ISI began their program against Soviets in Afghanistan, they didn't brought mercenaries, they brought an ideology and ideology is never short of human resources.

I leave though to the Northern Areas in a few hours. Will bring pictures.

That's one of those parts of the world I've always wanted to visit but probably never will. I'd love to be able to take a year or two and tour the whole of the subcontinent properly - preferably while England are winning at cricket out there :)

Northern Pakistan's Himalayas and Kashmir and landmines and skiing and goats and hash and stuff, right? If it has driving roads as well, maybe I have to bump it up the list if things ever cool off.

Hah! You wish at cricket!

Na'h you can actually. Can't recall the name of the school in the Northern Areas, but it was run by a British guy and when he retired, a British lady took over just recently. It is safe and British are quite respected there for how they have been like family to them.

Just take a flight directly to Gilgit and you'll be fine.

Maybe it is not relevant or, doesn't fulfill the government's agenda of Pakistan being the enemy instead the loser against terrorism.

I think I've read about the school you're talking about. Some really decrepit old bloke who'd somehow strung the whole thing along on a shoelace for so long it became an institution - that's intended to be a compliment, by the way, I was fascinated by it all. Proper border-country stuff.

I'm not really bothered by the security in Pakistan, or even in the border countries, all that much. As long as you don't do anything stupid, you can be safe pretty much anywhere in the world. My little brother's off to Iran in the summer as a tourist, and doesn't expect to run into any trouble. He was in North Africa during the Arab Spring, and simply stayed well out of the way, had a great time.

Personally, though, I think self-defence starts with the strategic view. Don't go looking for trouble, stay away from where trouble is. Your country is really, really interesting, but not interesting enough to beat out places that are also interesting and a lot safer.

Except if it has great driving roads up in the mountains, which you never answered properly. I always imagined all the roads up there to be in such poor repair, or unsurfaced, that you can't drive properly.

Well, the Karakoram Highway is newly paved. Then the road leading to the China border (Sust Border) which is good because China and Prince Aga Khan and his people. But I personally enjoy these place interfered with. Kailash for example. They are still unique people and everyone speaks English.

Yeah, you're right. I don't its worth the risk or not for others. For me, it is.

But the trouble in Pakistan is different to the places you mentioned. Here, it is guerrilla warfare against the West and us.

Yeah, those kinds of places are the only places that are still a bit wild and different. I guess they're also the last places that peace comes to. And good driving roads, because, come on, priorities.

Like I said, though, as long as you keep your eyes open and stay away from trouble, you're not likely to have any problems. It's just that there are loads of other places I also want to visit :)
