When I think of a State trooper sitting on the median waiting to give me a ticket, which will happen. I think of a Crown Victoria.
When I think of a taxi, I think of a Crown Victoria.
When I think of a used Police car, I think of a Crown Victoria.
When I think of my Grandma, I think of a Grand Marquis. Yeah, yeah. Same platform.
God I love these things... I hope that NYC at least either keeps these things, or brings more of those Impalas that Mr. Cheromcha brought up. Those would fit the bill nicely, plus they remind me of the bubble Caprices for some reason.

100% agree. I don't think we'll see anything as iconic again.

There's a small chance I may buy one Monday.

I've got a lot of memories involving Crown Victorias.
Luckily none of them were in the back of one in handcuffs.
But I fully agree, nothing we'll see will ever be a iconic.

There's no leg room.

Believe so. It's a cruiser, so I figure as much. I didn't realize they had so many power options.

The NYC taxi variants had an extended wheelbase to accomadate the partition and more room to collect vomit and drunk people, the cruisers notsamuch. Or anything with partitions.

Do it! They're absolute beasts.

I wonder if it is generational? While you are correct, and I don't believe there will be another single car platform to fill all those shoes, this is what pops into my head when someone mentions taxi or police car.

When I moved up North, I spent a good amount of time in New York (Relatives) even though I lived in Northern Va. Where the Crown Vic really set some memories for me in that city. I'm in my early/mid 20's.

I bought a Grand Marquis 4 months ago to experience this American 'icon' before they started to get scarce/all abused. Even though it is slower than all of my previous cars (which were N/A 4 cyls) it is just so damn comfortable. It is silent on the highway because at 70 mph its sitting at about 1700 rpm. Leather 'couch' chairs you sink into. Great visibility. Trunk you can live in. I want to keep it forever.
This is my 07 with a RR Phantom Drophead (I bet my Marquis is more comfortable!) ...yes my license plate is GANGNAM.

They're great cars. My Grandmother had one of them, and I've sat in an "Ultimate Edition." Her's was a 1997-8, big cushy bench seat included. They're great cars, quiet, spacey, safe, and the parts are easy to come by. The trunks are damn massive, in the Crown Vics, they just go so far down. It's like a black hole in there. But it's a great idea to experience a panther while you can! I like your thinking!

My Panther is my 5th car, I actually grew up in Europe so my first 4 have been small Japanese/Korean cars (Kia Forte, Mazda2 etc.) I decided it was time to open my mind to a different perspective. Its also my first automatic. (wish I could change that but don't know where to start...)

The options are limited as far as the Grand Marquis of that body style goes. The Mercury Marauder is a cushy, but still performance oriented version, If you've got a good budget, you can get a Marauder and have a manual swap done (around $5,000)

Thanks for the link! I just woke up to two new notifications on that old post and I was like wtf... Fully agree with you, of course. I've been known to pass on a Camry cab and wait for a Crown Vic (much to my girlfriend's chagrin) just so I can fully commit to memory the sensory experience of riding in one before it's too late.

Haha, So I'm not the only one!
I've done that several times.
Taxi line includes:
1. Prius
2. Crown Vic
3. Pimpala
Taxi Attendant direction person: First car.
Me: Fuck YO taxi line. *Gets into Crown Vic.

I worry that a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis would be too damn slow. If I get a Mustang GT, at least my 15 mpg is getting me some speed. With a Crown Vic, Im getting 15 mpg and an 8 second 0-60 time. I know they aren't made for speed, but if I get a V8 I would at least like more power than a V6.

It probably depends, the Crown Vic would be cheaper, and more practical. Plus the Crown Vic P71 wasn't exactly slow and floaty like the Grand Marquis and the civilian Crown Vic were.
