Kinja'd!!!2 Kinja'd!!! 8

First off, a little Rollandbait on my morning ride, in the form of a '70-'73 (not entirely sure) Cadillac Eldorado convertible. Sorry about the lousy pic.

Kinja'd!!!

Second, last night I went to a fundraising event hosted at Toyota dealer. While there, I realized that the only current Toyota I would be remotely interested in is the Land Cruiser (and the FJ Cruiser, but I would never buy one). So I walked over to have a look at it. It's a good-looking truck.

Kinja'd!!!

Then, I walked around to look at the sticker price, and got the shock of my life. To put what I'm about to tell you into perspective, here are the base prices for the Land Cruiser's direct competitors. A Mercedes GL starts at $63,000, a BMW X5 is $53,000, an Audi Q7 is $48,000, an Infiniti QX80 is $63,000, a Lincoln Navigatoris $62,000, a Cadillac Escalade is a somewhat insane $72,000, and the king of the luxury off-roaders by a million miles, the Range Rover (not counting the G Wagon), starts at $84,000. So where does a truck with a Toyota badge and the interior and platform of a pickup truck fall in all this? $50,000? $60,000? Nope.

Kinja'd!!!

No, you didn't misread that. This truck has a BASE PRICE of just a smidgen under $80,000. That's beyond insane. That's Rob Ford's own Crack Pipe. If nothing else, the Cruiser's far more refined and well-equipped, yet equally capable twin, the Lexus LX570, is just $3000 more. And even that's overpriced. It really does explain why you never see these rigs anywhere outside of Dubai, despite the fact that they are cool, capable machines.

Which, until I drive it to determine otherwise, I will deem nearly as bad. Despite the fact that I like the looks, and the interior.

It's a big body on frame truck coated in leather and 420 horsepower standard. How can you not like it?

I do like it. I like it a lot. But a $72,000 base price is too expensive.

Yup, the Land Cruiser has moved quite a ways away from it's knock-off Willy's Jeep roots.

LCs are great, just not the US spec ones lol. In Saudi you can buy it with cloth interior, the 4.0 V6, and a stick for around 45k, which is still a lot but I would gladly pay because new manual truck.
