Because national pride is incredibly dumb in the sense that nobody got to choose where they grow up?

Unless you're a first-generation immigrant. Then go ahead and be proud, why not. :P

I don't think national pride is dumb so long as you aren't blind to the bad as well as the good.

I consider myself lucky to have been born in America and I'm proud of our manufacturing, science and technology industry's. I'm part of the first one as well, so there's an additional personal connection there.

That being said, our politics could use some work and our foreign policy is pretty questionable at times, but at the end of the day we don't choose where we are born, like you said, so why not enjoy taking some pride in it?
