Than to configure the most obnoxious and obscenely priced one that you can. Here's your $110,500 Macan Turbo, complete with $3,500 911 Turbo wheels, $3,600 brown paint and a $900 painted key fob.

That's dangerously close to many an Opponaut's dream wagon. Just chop the roof a few inches and put in a manual tranny and it would be worshiped.

Is that thing closely related to the Q5? Because I kinda like those...

I think some Opponauts will be feeling very conflicted since the Macan's brown paint costs exactly as much as an NA Miata in decent condition.

IIRC it shares a basic platform but only about 30% of the actual parts with the Q5

Somehow I find the Porsche every-small-option-costs-a-giant-amount policy depressing. If Porsche really took care of customers when they ran into trouble, that might help.

Base Porsches can be decent values if you stay away from the options. That is a HUGE if especially when dealers order the cars with crap on them just to extort more money from customers.

You make a good point. Probably the way to maximize your fun per dollar, Porsche-wise.

"Aurum"
It means "Only idiots pay $3600 for this" in German.

If they mimicked the Cayenne and built a 6MT version with the 3.6L V6 and priced it at $45k, I *may* get interested..

What is the difference between a Macan and a Cayenne?

PDK is the one gearbox I'd be willing to settle for over manual.

You're planning on unloading the Golf R in favor of TDI and fun car, right?

But if you were buying a Porsche with both options, which would you choose?

Depends on which Porsche I suppose, and my current situation.
It would be a tough decision, but I think I'd pick manuel on a Boxster, Cayman, or 911, and a PDK on the Panamera/Cayenne/Macan. If I had another manual car in the stable and planned on using the Porsche for trackdays/autocross, I'd pick PDK.
I'll take 911 RS for $5000

I saw one on the road about a week ago and it caught me completely by surprise. I was surveying the opposing traffic while stopped at a light. Upon seeing the front I thought "Ugh, another Cayenne." Further reflection caused me to realize it wasn't quite that big. At that point it had passed, so I didn't get a great look, but it is surprisingly nice looking for a small SUV.

As far as I can tell, Cayenne = Q5 = Tiguan, Macan = Q7 = Touareg.

No. I'm an idiot. I got it the wrong way around. I'm leaving it for posterity though.
