Citizens of Oppo! Around a week ago, we did :

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Now, lets flip it around. This time, show me the best average MPG you have achieved! Same rules, meaning at least 5 miles for the distance, and average MPG's only (please don't take a picture of the instant MPG gauge in your H2 reading 99 MPG while driving downhill in neutral). This time, I want to see how much we can beat the manufacturer estimates by.

From Merc's website:

Kinja'd!!!

And what I was able to get:

Kinja'd!!!

(Note: This was done on the highway at the lowest possible RPMs in 7th gear with the windows up, A/C off, slipstreaming an 18-wheeler. Basically, everything short of folding in the side mirrors and taping the panel gaps. I am proud of this.)

So, I beat Merc's estimate by ~21.3%. I'm sure you have way better. No need for pics if you don't have them, just tell us your best vs. what the manufacturer estimates for your car.

I once got 89 mpg in my Subaru for 1 mile. 0 throttle whatsoever, engine braking for 1 mile from 150 mph

I got 33 mpg with the Miata but that was a lot of highway travel and taking advantage of engine-braking/coasting with the injectors turned off.

I have seen 99 in the 07 milan, down a big hill, and all the way up and over the next one.

Realistic, though, without worrying about slipstreaming and with max AC on last week i was cruising at 80 mph with 31.9 mpg. EPA= 26. I was able to hold that mpg on flat surfaces for over 30 miles so it wasnt a fluke. I've seen 34 before but not for as long of a period of time. Oh and the car wasn't empty, had a big ass stroller in the trunk and a car seat installed in the back

The EPA estimated combined is 21, I typically when mixing city and highway get 21.9.

'13 Kia Rio used to have a 40mpg rating but people were made because they were never getting that. So they lowered it to 37 I think. I don't have any issues though. I regularly get around 43 going to work on the highway with traffic. Lots of engine breaking I guess.

My best was ~48 MPG, in a diesel Rabbit pickup (GA to NC trip, unloaded). No idea what mfr. alleged was, but that's a pretty typical number. Apparently TG US put a modern diesel in a normal Rabbit with aero and weight mods and broke 80.

None of my vehicles have fancy readouts, but here's my MPGs

2007 Focus SES PZEV: EPA rated 26/31. Regularly see 26MPG mixed, avg 32.4 highway. Saw 42 hwy once, road tripping to Florida drafting behind a U-haul truck

1995 Dakota 5.2 4x4 5MT: EPA rated 11/16. Regularly see 18.5MPG mixed, avg 17.0. Best I've seen is 19.2 mixed

1987 Saab 900 SPG 2.0T 5MT: EPA rated 19/24. These numbers LIE oh do they LIE! I never saw less than 22 city, with a lead freakin' foot. My average, 34.5 mixed. Best, 38.0 road trip from Denver to some lake in Wyoming

High of 34 one tank, got 30+ on three other tanks, usually averaged 22-25 in my '98 Stratus.

Best of 28.X in my '05 Stratus, could probably break 30, but haven't yet. Also, E85 was around 24, but neither time was a full tank of e85 (had 1/4 tank or so of e10).

In the US you use a gallon of about 3.8 litres which I think comes about because your pint has 16 fluid ounces. The rest of the world (well those who still use gallons) have a gallon of 4.545 litres called the imperial gallon which has pints of 20 fluid ounces. 69.5 mpg here is therefore about 58 mpg there.

I got 26.5 with my next tank... +.5 MPG woo-hoo!
