1995 Ferrari 456 GT, V12, manual, 35,000 miles, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
DAT PLATE FRAME!
Funny, a fire hazard in Savannah...
And it's blue...
I'm making a Sherman joke.
That doesn't look too bad to maintain, honestly. There is enough room to work with the hood up.

Okay, let's do my desirable Ferrari checklist:
I. Layout
Front engine V12, 3 points | Mid engine V12, 2 points | Mid engine V8, 1 point
II. Transmission
Open gated manual, 3 points | F1 gearbox, 2 points | Any other automatic, 1 point
III. Color
Blue, Black, Silver, 3 points | Red and Yellow, -1 point | Any other color: 1 point
Full score I'd say!

It was in one accident, but "accident" can mean a lot of things.

Says Ferrari's history of front engined V12 GT street cars =P
And that's not to mention all the V12 front engined Ferrari's to come after the 456:
550/575M
612 Scaglietti
599 GTB/GTO
FF
F12

Second only to the F355 in the looks department during that era, I'd say.

I agree with almost everything you said when it comes to 1990s Ferraris, especially this model. I don't mind red Ferraris but wouldn't want this car in red. Blue would be my favorite.
I would tweak the transmission points a little:
Open gated manual, 3 points | F1 gearbox, -1 points | Any other automatic, -3 points
Reason: early F1 is expensive to maintain and no Ferrari should have a slushbox! (but some of these 456s did...)

You can get an F355 for super cheap. I've seen them under $40K.
Now keeping it running is another story...

Yeah, I've seen them hit $35,000. I'd also be sorely tempted by a 348, too. Either way, keeping them running will be work.
Can you get Ferrari parts on your own or do you have to go through the dealer for all the maintenance? Because I can wrench.

Well, I was thinking about the horrible, early F1s that also were laggy and unusable in city driving, but the new ones are quite good. I mean I wouldn't want a 599 GTO with a manual just because of the car's brutal character. So I went with two points.
Still, nothing beats a manual V12 Ferrari.

I've done a very light amount of research on 348 maintenance. It is supposed to be cheaper than the F355. I think the problem with the F355 isn't even the maintenance but all the stuff that can go wrong and require repairs. The 348 is slower but has a simpler engine that should break less often.
Yes you can get parts through other channels. If you can wrench and have another car then you can be patient and hunt for parts. That's what my old man does. Sometimes he finds rebuilt parts that are better than new. There are people out there that learn how to rebuilt certain parts and advertise their services on the web.

For the F355, I blame having five valves per cylinder. Seriously, five? It's an odd number! That's so weird. Odd number means funny business somewhere to get that working right on what is a generally symmetrical machine.
Good to know that parts are available through alternative channels. Makes the idea of ownership less daunting. If I were to pursue this, I would definitely go about it the way your father does.
As for the 348 being slower, I'm okay with that. Despite what Ferrari thinks of themselves, I am not interested in their cars because of their performance pedigree. I just like the way they look and driving one around has got to be something else to experience. And the 348 only comes in manual, so it's perfect as a "fun driver."

Haha true, when it comes to the early ones you're almost better off with a slushbox! Especially in a heavy car.
I always wonder how hard it would be to drive the modern special edition cars if they did come with a stick. Cars like the 599 GTO, 458 Speciale and F12 have so much power and rev so fast that it could be hard for the human arm and leg to keep up.

The 5 value per cylinder probably does make things wonky. I wonder if it's also why the engine sounds so good?
I'm cool with the 348's speed too. There is a really clean 348 spider by me. I keep resisting the urge to go look at it. I'm worried that once I try out that gated shifter I'll be hooked and buy the car on the spot.

There are so many Ferraris for under $50K. You just need to spend 1/5 the car's value per year to keep them running :)

There's a blue one, similar to the 456 above, with an unlisted price over on AutoTrader . Located in Nevada.

I bet you they'd take $36K for it.
Very nice color.
Is it just me or did the 348 originally look good, then look dated, and now look good again?
Every time I see it I like it more. The strakes are growing on me.

Nah, I think it's always looked good. The Testarossa is the one that went through phases like that. The 348 just has better proportions all around.
And yes, the strakes make it. Especially across the lights in the back.

I felt that way about both of them because of the strakes. I loved the Testarossa as a kid. Then later I wasn't that into it. Now I love it again. Having a Testarossa would be badass.
