On !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about the awesome imported Toyota Soarer & Crown. The guy called the cars, "soulless," "ugly," "pensioner's cars". Have a few soulless, ugly pensioner's cars to remind you that no Japanese carmaker, particularly not Toyota, had ever made a beautiful, soulful sports car. Ever. Nope.

I was really confused at what or rather who you were talking about and then with a little bit of ctrl f, I discovered who was so rage inducing and my advice, ignore them. The commenter in question does this a lot and seems to take pleasure in shitting on other people's taste. I unfortunately ended up on his side during the whole most American car debate and I have never tried so hard to sabotage my own argument in the history of my life, there is elitism and then there is that person.

He's actually using the name and likeness of this guy , who happens to have written several car books, including DK's huge The Car Book, as well as "must drive before you die" visual guides, featuring comepletely non japanese cars such as the original Datsun 240Z, Mazda RX-7, Miata, NSX, S2000, Nissan Skyline... So, yeah, this guy's actually not Quentin Willson.

In fairness those were bad cars, I once saw a Sunny split in two it had rusted so bad. I don't think I have ever seen a Corolla in London, lots of Yaris' though (but they like them, a lot).
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

> sm70- why not Duesenberg?

I think it is unfair when people say Top Gear hate X because what they usually mean is that Clarkson hates X. Hammond loves American cars but people always seem to ignore that.

Sometimes you just have to pick your battles. I'm guilty of all too often thinking a person might be open to discussion but it turns out they just wanted an argument/attention or something. Just let it go. Do you really think you'll be able to change his mind? This is the type of person you're dealing with:

It seems very unOppo to trash other folks' taste in rides. The point is if someone has enthusiasm for what they drive, that enthusiasm is worth celebrating. Personally I get a kick out of someone loving a car I hadn't looked twice at before, or had previously dismissed. It changes how I look at that car the next time I see one. It's part of what makes Oppo so much fun!

I hate Japanese cars.
Yep, I said it.
BUT
I respect what they're capable of. 1 of those things (at least used to be) making fun/intense designs. 1 of those things (at least used to be) making incredibly durable long lasting cars. 1 of those things was making CHEAP cars. And lastly a lot of them get great mpg's.
Don't like em, but I respect what they do.
I don't like European cars either, but I suspect a 911 would be a blast to drive.

> Roadster Man
06/04/2014 at 12:24 | 1 |
HELL YEAH A MERCURY
and ease up with that boat talk, a 71 caddy is more than 2 feet longer than my Montego.
I'm just not into the "little car oooo yay it turns a lot" thing. I'm more of a MOAR POWER kind of guy.
And it's loud as hell!
Roadster Man
> MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner

HA! I didn't mean to offend. That's comforting, because my Caddy was a solid 18 1/2 feet long. That thing was a terror to park.
I can respect your preference, power is bad ass. I am all about the turns and twists, I love picking the perfect line or getting the rear to step out juuuust a bit on the corner exit. But that's how the roads around here are- not many places to light up the tires or hit a quarter-mile run, LOTS of twisty backroads.

ahh I'm on the boring grid system of streets in Metro Detroit.
It's ok, it only has about 1 foot in front and behind in the garage. We're looking at new houses and the first thing we say when we go into the garage is "think the Montego will fit?" I may bring a measuring tape from now on.... lol
It's all about what you like. That's the point of all I was saying from the beginning. I can support people's likes and enthusiasm even though it's not my thing.
Oh and you can't tell me this engine doesn't look cool and that the exhaust sound in this youtube vid isn't awesome.

Yeah, that sounds bad ass. You can't fault a nice big V8. I hope you find a nice garage for it! When I finally shop for a house, I'm going to be more interested in the garage than anything else.
I'm with you on supporting other enthusiasts. We all aren't into the same thing, but we are all car guys. That should count for a lot more than what kinds of cars you like.
That's why anytime I see a modified car I give them a thumbs-up, no matter who it is or what car it is.

yea man! though mine's a little V8 (302/5.0L)...in fact, the smallest available in the Montego that year. And only thing smaller from Ford in 68 was the 289.
