Here's my latest toy, a 2008 Buell 1125R. It has a little over 2,400 miles and I picked it up off of craigslist last week for the raw price of $2500 with the sole intention of flipping it.

The guy had some electrical problems that he couldn't tackle, so I decided to take a chance on it. We put a new battery in and it fired right up. I got it home, but the next morning it wouldn't start. Sometimes the bike would try to turn over but just couldn't, and other times when I hit the ignition the bike would make a loud click near the tail of the bike and completely shut down all electronics. Weird.

So I tore down the bike one Friday afternoon and figured it had to be the voltage regulator since I had just bought a brand new battery, but it wasn't firing up.

No wonder the POS doesn't fire up! It has an Italian electronic part in it!

The next morning I got back outside and after some thinking I decided just to check the fuses and then the starter relay since the click was coming from back there. I had to plug in the VR that I had removed the night before and then proceed. I pulled the cover off and checked all the fuses- no luck. Next I pulled the cover off the relay box and wiggled all the relays then tried my luck firing it up- it works! I've mended a thing!

Next up, trying to see if I could re-attach the mirror that the PO had broken off. Luckily he kept it around, so I proceeded to boil the mirror and take a knife to remove the glass, and a Phillips screwdriver to remove the rest. After some work removing the putty I got to the wires that had been snapped, and unfortunately discovered that the wires attached to the bike had taken some of the LED circuit board with them

I'll unfortunately have to pony over $100 for a new mirror, but then I hope to sell it to someone for over 2x what I paid for it. I already have a standing offer of $4000 for it, but I'm hoping to get at least $5500

Damn. Not bad at all, that's less than I paid for my '97 BMW F650 with 19K miles on it.

That's an awesome looking bike. It's too bad that Harley killed Buell, Erik had a good company going.

They had a good product with a cult following. I had a Molten Orange '99 M2 which was the most fun thing to ride. It had so much torque on a short frame that even putting around town in 3rd when you're on and off the gas, you could see the suspension rebounding and compressing. We put an exhaust on it that had just the most addicting note when you were coasting down from a high RPM. I'll miss that bike

Agreed, even those little thumpers were such unique bikes. EBR is their temporary revival, I just wish that Harley didn't axe them. I considered a Blast as a starter bike, but eventually fell for a newer Suzuki.
