I like Initial D, Mighty Car Mods, Ken Block and all the likes of it, but there's a limit to how much you like it IMO. Let's take my friend as an example who is a super fanboy of these. I went to F1 with him last year. I just wanted to enjoy the race. He would talk non stop about the racing lines of the drivers , how he would take the lines and used Initial D as an example...hold on a sec now. Because a Manga/anime looks realistic, it doesn't mean that it fully is and that you need to treat it as a bible! And if you're so better, why aren't you a race driver? Better yet, why the hell you found my sim racing games extremely difficult with my full racing rig and you find NFS being a better racing game with a PS controller? Even better, why his subby RS got his engine blown up after one year of your use, got all the fenders banged up and his mirror broken? Initial D drifting. He copied Initial D and hit the guardrail to improve his time (as demonstrated multiple times by some opponents in fifth stage)! WHY THE HELL DO YOU EVEN NEED TO DO THAT???? AND THERE'S NO STOP CLOCK NO WHERE STOP PRETENDING!
I went to the Paul Walker event with him and thought: "Ah there's only a drag strip, no bullshit will happen", how wrong was I. I was following him to the event. First he took corners like an idiot like he was Takumi by swing from left to right to simulate a "drift" and then going in the gravel instead of the road to simulate a gutter run. Then as you know he got his car towed due to an expired driver's license. I thought, nice! No more Initial D bullshit. But no...I got into the drag strip and each time he was the super excited guy that yelled "CHOP HIM!!!!!" à la MCM apparently. Then I gave him a run in the passenger seat. He kept yelling CHOPPPED!!!!! CHOPPPEEEDD!!!!! like an idiot. Everyone was looking at us and I looked like one too because of that...
I bet if that was a drift event, I would get a taste of both Ken Block and Initial D fanboyism....

I like Initial D, but your friend is clearly an idiot. Like an immense idiot. Assuming that lines in a Formula 1 car should be run like street cars doing touge is simply asinine. He obviously has no idea how physics and the dynamics of different types of cars/racing actually work. People like that are insanely obnoxious, and are a significant part of why the import scene gets a bad rep. with other car cultures.

He used to work into a arcade where I spent a shit load of time there. He played Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune like me and a lot of Initial D unlike me. He seemed like a cool guy until he got his subby...that's where I learned how insane he is.

He's a dipshit. You should tell him so. He needs your help. Please rehabilitate him as a service to the rest of the world.

Just delete him from your phone contacts and don't go to that arcade anymore.

He's the kind of Macho guy that doesn't listen. I won't invite him to events anymore, this was too much.

The arcade closed down years ago. I got him on FB. I can't leave him stranded like that...

I didn't mean be nice, I just meant ridicule until he humbles down a bit. You gotta break 'em down before you can build them back up better.

To be entertained, it's fine to watch. But I always, always remind myself that Initial D is fictional. Fiction - something that is invented or untrue. If one starts comparing fiction to real life, that person needs to get a grip. And not the type of grip you get from riding a gutter. If it was a deeper than expected gutter, imagine the damage you would wreck on your suspension components. Look at how modern FD cars are set up to drift spectacularly - I don't think Takumi's AE86 looks anything similar.
Ken Block? Sureeeee, there's a fat load of eye candy to be gained from watching his Gymkhana videos. But does your friend know that Ken Block isn't really that brilliant in WRC? He crashes more often that I like...
To be honest, I find Wangan Midnight more believable than Initial D, haunted Datsun 240Z and all.

Then at least don't bring him in public, not just for you but for anyone else who may have to hear him open his mouth.

Totally agree. I keep telling him that it's fiction and he responds "I know I know..." and continues about the Initial D shit. It's almost a lost cause. I don't think much people knows the truth about Ken Block...
TOTALLY AGREE FOR WANGAN MIDNIGHT. As an avid follower, I'm disappointed that the anime didn't go by the book on some points...

How old is this "friend"? Sounds like he's 12. Get away before he gets you hurt or killed.

Damn. 32... Sounds like he's having a mid-life crisis, or that he's a man-child. Tell him to grow up, man up, and stop with the childish bull.

More like man-child...he blames all his bad luck with cops with the racist card. Having a Impreza with a big exhaust will get you checked by cop every now and then. no matter the race. His explaination : Cops are jelly about a black guy in a Impreza. They give me tickets and an inspection for my big loud exhaust. They're racist!". I'm black myself and I had to get him back to earth's soil and tell him that the EXHAUST not YOU is cause of the issue. I would do the same if I had an encounter with your goddamn fart can!

32?!?! 32?!?!?!?!
I just realized that there is sometimes a need for capitalization of numbers. That's interesting. Anyway...
Wow. I read your post thinking he was 16-17 and just got his license, maaaybe early 20's. So he intentionally hit the guard rail, because that's what they did in Initial D? Am I reading that correctly?
I don't care much for Initial D, but I'm a fan of MCM and to some extent Ken Block, and I just don't understand where this kind of mentality comes from. MCM is great, but I'm not going to start saying "mad" or "chopped" to people like an idiot. I think the problem lies in the guy, not the source material.

Damn. This guy's an idiot.
On a semi-related note; in Initial D, hitting the wall makes you faster?

Hitting the guardrail (more like scratching it) means that the guy is fully going inside the corner to catch up to the opponent, in Initial D.

That's exactly what I thought, 17-18, maybe 20.
I'm sorry, but if you've got a loud car, that YOU modded to make louder, and the cops stop you because YOU'RE being a douche, that's not racism, that's YOU being a dumbass. You deserve all you get.
I had a straight-piped VW for years. I was never once pulled over because of it. Why? Because I kept my foot off the loud pedal when driving in neighborhoods, school zones, etc.
