Well, an SUV, specifically an '05 Honda Pilot with about 105k miles for freesies. My fiancée's parents have too many cars ('12 Highlander Hybrid, '85 380SL, '06 Mustang GT, '49 Ford Custom Sedan, said Pilot) and they just bought a new Nissan Juke and her dad is worried about having all these cars when they both retire, so he's giving the 'Stang to her brother and giving us the Pilot. It's a good car, but needs new rear tires, rear struts and an alignment before it's perfect. Hopefully I'll get the '49 in a few years as well - he sort-of lost interest after he got the Mercedes.

TL:DR; free car for winter beater and spare duties.

Jag prototype engine for your time.

I was going to say what the hell are you doing buying an 05 honda pilot with 105k miles, then I saw FREE.

everything is excused when the word FREE is involved

Good luck getting the 49, sounds like he's got an awesome variety of cars haha

He's already discussed it with her - he knows I love old cars, and I really would like an old sedan. He's seen the work I've done on the Willys and I guess he thinks if I have it 1) it'll say in-family and 2) I'll take care of it. Fortunately the engine was rebuilt about 6 years ago and he starts it up every now and then. It's got a lot of hard to find aftermarket bits too, like yellow aux. lights, two spotlights, extra trim, etc. Very cool car.

ha you do know the t-belt interval on those is something weird like 107K miles, right?

Dayum! For free?! I would love a free pilot. Sounds like you are at the water pump/timing belt interval though.

Damn sounds it!

My dad has a dilemma with his classic car. He doesn't know who to put it in the will for, myself or my sister.

He has a 64 Dodge 330 Police Car, perfectly restored and 100% original.

Here's the Dilemma:

Option 1: give it to me, the son who is a car freak and already owns 1 classic car and is obsessed with old cars

Option 2: give it to my sister who is less interested in cars, doesn't own a classic car already...but IS A COP. Oh she does like cars, just not like me, recently owned/DDed a V6 manual Mustang.

wants to keep it in the family but......

That's quite a dilemma for him - I would think your sister would love to have it and it might inspire her to get into cars more.

That's true - I'll have to ask him if he's had it done. I want to say "yes" but am not sure. I'll also probably have to get the VTM diff serviced, as I understand it can be quite finicky if not taken care of. This will mostly by my winter car and a road-trip vehicle, as well as a back-up in case I break the BMW while performing service on it.

Essentially what I heard when I first met her:

"Blah blah blah dad has a '49 Ford sedan" blah blah"

Seriously I'm expecting a full oppo review of the Pilot after it is 100%.

Will-do, but for now a brief review: it's a fat pig that gets terrible gas mileage, but it's a great comfy car. Lots of bass in the stereo too.

Yeah it might, but she's been through a couple mustangs and neither of us think she'd be able to put in the effort to keep it anywhere near it's current level of awesome.

Maybe he can cheat the system and leave it for my son, the last of our last name (and his first grandson)

Leave it with you for safe keeping in the mean-time? Sounds like a win.

I once had a dream that I won a Pilot so I sold it and paid off our current cars. I don't have very exciting dreams.

yeah it is right up against it. who cares, it actually isnt too bad of a job to do it yourself unless interference engines give you the willies. Just turn the motor over by hand a few times before cranking if you are ever worried.

My family owned an 05 pilot for 113k since new and it was one of the most reliable cars we've ever had. Very spacious and comfy, good stereo, great for trips. Gas mileage is what you would expect with an SUV, but the V6 is a peach! Great car to have for when you need to haul 3 rows worth of people around, this will stave off the spectre of the minivan if you have kids!

That's what I've come to know about the Pilot. I've probably put 1,000 miles on it between ski trips and beach trips. The engine is quite smooth, and it just floats over bumps in the road.

I laughed my ass off when some broke college student (this was years ago) won a brand new Dodge Viper on the Price is Right. He was jumping up and down excited as hell. I can't wait until he finds out how much the taxes on that son of a bitch are going to be, let alone insurance, registration and GAS.

If I remember correctly he didn't win much in the way of cash to help cover it.
