So, I was browsing the internet this morning and stumbled upon this ad for a unique Porsche Carrera GT. The owner claims that "this is probably the rarest of all Carrera GT's on the planet" and lists the car as only having 260 original miles. In addition, the owner has "NEVER driven the car" but does "start and run the car once a week." The crowning jewel is that this is apparently the only car Porsche has ever painted Arancio Borealis (a Lamborghini color for those that don't know). So what do you think? Is this car unique enough to command almost the same money as a new 918?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Sorry for the small images. I don't know how to make them bigger. Also, here's the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to the owner's website with images and videos of the car.

Edit: I was trying to include a poll but technology has proven that I'm incompetent once again.

Cool? Yeah, that's a neat color, and the Carrera GT is a cool car.

Cooler than a 918 though? Helllll no.

Shame that it's never been driven though, a car like that deserves an owner that will.

Second was white, don't recall the color of the first. I'm also color deficient haha so I don't trust myself with some colors

For some reason, it makes me happy that there are <500 mile super cars around, while usually I like to think that supercar owners drive their cars for the most part. When the carrera gt came out I was super young, but maybe now if I do really well I can still get one before they're few and far between

Hey, so I have some news for you. I went by the Mercedes-Benz dealership today to look at that F430 Spider for you while on my way to look at the F-Type R. I know we were going back and forth on what the color exactly was but I'm 99% positive it's Rosso Corsa after viewing it up close. Overall, the car was in pretty good shape but did have some minor issues including a large stone chip on the boot, a smaller stone chip on the front bumper, 3-4 odd shaped chips on the driver's side door right on the outer edge, and small but fairly deep wear marks at the tips of the seat bolstering especially on the driver's side. In addition, the car had an aftermarket stereo (thankfully the stock unit was in the boot), a "Kenwood" rearview camera, and an integrated radar detector. Personally, I detest when people start messing with wiring because I always worry that if it's not done professionally, it might arch and start a fire. However, the car was quite well optioned with a carbon fiber steering wheel, Hi-fi sound system, challenge rear grill, scuderia shields, carbon center dash, and daytona seats with red stitching and piping (there might have been more stuff on it but this is what I can remember). Also, after it had warmed up (the car obviously hadn't been started in a while), she drove beautifully with no signs of clutch slip or disconcerting noises from the engine or transmission. I had forgotten how beautiful the F430's engine sounds at redline and the fact that the roof was down made it even better. In addition, the car had recently received a $3,100 servicing, it's tires look like they had plenty of tread on them, the front and rear splitter did not feel or look like they had be scraped, the brakes bit early and felt strong, and the suspension was sporty without being harsh just like it should be. Unfortunately, Robert, the salesman I was dealing with, knew nothing about the car or Ferraris at all. However, to his credit, he was honest about the fact that he didn't know much about the vehicle and didn't try to misrepresent himself. Overall, he was a really nice young man that was very helpful. Not surprisingly, Robert's lack of knowledge lead to some funny moments. For instance, he didn't realize that you have to start the car to open the boot, so he was fervently pushing down the boot release button without and success and even said "Well I hope it isn't broken." Also, after I had looked at the boot and verified that all of the relevant items were present, Robert attempted to turn the car off and kept pushing the "engine start" button to no avail. Finally, the general manager, Billy, came over to meet me and, during the course of talking about the car, informed me that the color was "Corsa Rosso." I had to hold myself back from smirking at that one. However, my favorite moment was when an individual named Steve, who was working on trading in his C350 for a G550, came over to chat with me while the salesman helping him grabbing some keys. He literally came up to me and said, "Nice car isn't it? But do you realize how much insurance and maintenance are on cars like this? Something definitely to think about." I just replied, "Oh, well I wouldn't know. I'm just looking at this car for a friend. Supercars really aren't my thing."

Overall, the car was nice but I would say that its price is a bit high for the shape it's in. Also, sorry that I didn't take any photos.

Let me know if you want to know anything about the car.

Thanks again for seeing the car. I'm glad that it was entertaining to test drive it. Isn't it how crazy good it sounds when you get it out on the road? Which car did you drive to the dealership? I'm sure they had no qualms about letting you drive it if they saw your GT or 12C. That is hilarious that the Steve guy came and talked to you about supercar ownership costs. You have to tell people on Oppo that story, haha.

I read all the details in your review of the car again and I agree with your opinion. It seems like a nice car but one with some minor flaws that aren't factored into the price. They're asking top dollar but the car isn't in perfect condition for the mileage. I'm guessing what happened was the dealership took this car as a trade in for an AMG SLS. And they probably gave the buyer too high of a trade in value because they're not knowledgeable about Ferraris and were anxious to sell an SLS.

The really intriguing thing you got confirmation on is the color. I really didn't think it was Rosso Corsa when I first saw the pics. In some of the pics the lighting made it look darker and in some it looked metallic. And in some it looked more orange. When you pointed the orange hue out when you first saw the pics I thought for sure it was Scuderia Rossa. This just goes to show how dynamic some paint colors are. They really morph based on lighting. This makes me feel good about Rossa Corsa as it sometimes gets a bad rap for being the most common red. It's the red people refer to when they call a Ferrari "Resale Red". But that doesn't mean it isn't a great color. Sometimes things are common because they are good. If a good deal comes up on a Rosso Corsa car comes up I won't hesitate to go for it. You have to be someone flexible on colors when buying used. If you only look for one particular color it can be hard to find the right car at the right price with the right options. I'll definitely keep Rosso Corsa on my short list of possible colors.

Thanks again for checking out the car. I hope you're having a good week so far.

It was no problem at all. I enjoy being able to help others when possible. Yes, they are quite astounding sounding vehicles. I drove our Range Rover to the dealership because the wife and I stopped by Costco on the way home and the super cars don't handle groceries very well. Yeah Steve was quite an interesting fellow.

Your assessment definitely seems plausible. Also, I definitely agree that the car is overpriced considering its condition.

I agree. I was going back and forth on the color but after I saw it in person, I was convinced it was Rosso Corsa. I definitely think it's a great color and am glad you're considering it. Yes, it might be very common but sometimes that's really appealing to people because maybe the first Ferrari they ever saw was in that color. Concerning flexibly with colors, you hit the nail on the head. You could wait years to find the right color or buy an amazing car that might not be in your first color choice. Personally, I always tell people to wait to find their perfect car whether that be its color or just certain options but you should also be realistic (you're probably not going to find a factory pink F430 Spider with a 6 speed manual). Anyway, I know it's hard but just remain patient and I'm sure everything will work out for you.

Let me know if you find anymore cars your interested in that are in Texas, as time permitting, I would be happy to look at them for you. I have had a great week so far but am stressing out a bit because the wife has been talking about starting a new business and of course wants me to handle everything.

I hope work has been going well for you and that you're not working too hard. Haha. Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha that's true that super cars don't handle groceries very well. They would be OK for me since I rarely buy more than 2 bags worth of groceries. But I live by myself and rarely cook so I don't have to buy much!

It's so true that it can take years to find a specific color if you also want other options that not every car has. A factory pink F430 spider with a manual probably is impossible to find. But I'll let you know if I find one as it would be pretty funny if it existed!

Thanks so much for the offer. I'll let you know if something perfect comes up in your neck of the woods that I really want to see.

Work has been a bit stressful this week but I guess that's normal. That's interesting that your wife wants to start a new business. I've often thought of that topic as I've started a business from scratch and it would be neat to help my future wife do the same. The girls that I've dated rarely have a job that produces good income and that gives them real enjoyment. It would be kind of ideal to help my future spouse start a business because she would have a shot of doing something she loves. And if it ends up making decent money it would add security in case my business went through a downswing.

Does your wife know what kind of business she wants to start?

Alright I look forward to seeing it and you're welcome.

Hopefully work gets a bit better. Having a wonderful gal to spend your life with and being able to make her happy is definitely a great feeling.

Yeah she actually was a lawyer at one time and ran her own practice but retired a few years ago. I think now she kind of just wants something to do for fun.

Yes, she wants to open a store that will sell high end, imported Italian beauty products like soaps, cosmetics, etc. In fact, she suggested that I buy an Italian made vehicle and put stickers with the company's name on it for promotional purposes. So of course, I took this

Her idea to sell high end Italian beauty products and have you advertise the store on a Ferrari is AWESOME. I fully support this business plan!!!

I totally understand how she wants to do something fun instead of going back to law. My sister is an attorney and has only been working for few years. She's already tired of it, haha.

The 458 is awesome and looks good in black. But I think you'd need a color that stands out more like red or yellow. In this specific case you'd want to be attracting attention!

I was reading about 458 issues on FChat the other day. Apparently some owners have had their transmissions fail. The Getrag unit can have issues dealing with all that power.

I haven't researched 12C transmission reliability yet. Have any 12C owners had issues?

Kinja'd!!! CAcoalminer > Manuél Ferrari
06/06/2014 at 15:29

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah I thought it was quite intriguing. Now, I just have to work out the details and feasibility.

Yeah it's definitely a hit or miss career. My wife actually loved it but is at the age where she just doesn't want to deal with everyone's problems anymore.

I definitely agree about your color assessment. I was just driving the car shown above to test out the 458, I would definitely get a different color.

I have heard similar things as well. I read once that the SLS Black Series and 458 use the same transmission, but Mercedes tunes theirs for longevity while Ferrari focuses simply on fast shifts even if it means a shorter transmission life. Definitely something to consider for sure. However, I have two friends with them and they haven't had any issues that I know of but I'll definitely talk to them.

Concerning the 12C, the biggest thing I've heard about is the transmission goes into a "limp mode" where it only allows you to use even gears, go 50 mph, and cuts power. However, it sounds like owners just turn off the car, let it sit for a while, and start it up again and all is fine. I've also heard of software issues that make downshifting a really slow process. However, I think these issues were confined to early cars, as mine has never experienced anything like this and has 18,000 miles on it. Just another reason why I never by the first production year of any car (except for my blue GT but I'll make an exception for that).

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > CAcoalminer
06/06/2014 at 17:22

Kinja'd!!!0

So true how lawyers are always dealing with everyone's issues. It can get old!

Interesting that the SLS has the same box but that it's tuned differently. I read that Ferrari's DCT is reliable most of the time but can be damaged or need replacement when the car is driven hard. That could mean on track or very spirited street driving. One user said that Ferrari voids your warranty if they find out the car was driven on track. I have not yet fact checked that statement.

Interesting that the 12C has a limp home mode. If the 458 doesn't then the 12C's limp home mode might be a big asset that prevents owners from cooking their transmission.

06/06/2014 at 17:34

Kinja'd!!!1

For sure.

That's really interesting because I know plenty of people who have tracked their cars and never had any issues with the dealership. For instance, the friend that owns the 16M had a Scuderia which spent 90% of its time on the track and never had issues at all. The driving hard fact seems odd. I mean it's a Ferrari, people will want to drive it hard and listen to its amazing engine. You would think they would plan ahead in anticipation for this.

Yup. Thankfully, I've never experienced it.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > CAcoalminer
06/06/2014 at 18:32

Kinja'd!!!0

It would be a real shame if this issue was common. It may have been super rare. But all it takes is for a couple people to have the issue and not be taken care of and everyone will know about it. When my Dad was battling Porsche over an issue that they couldn't fix under warranty they finally caved and fixed it, but only after he signed an NDA promising to not disclose details of his issue or them paying for it to anyone. I honestly don't think they would have taken care of it if it wasn't for the power of Internet forums. They didn't care about him but they cared about him sharing detailed issues about his saga on forums that Porsche buyers frequent. They bought back his car to shut him up.

When I was reading about the 458 DCT issue on FChat some people were saying that they thought the F430's F1 was actually stronger than the DCT. The F1 box can be finicky and need adjustments. But it may be less prone to failure than the DCT. Which kind of makes sense because the single clutch F1 that the Scud and 16M got were the last revisions of the transmission. I read that Ferrari was so happy with how dialed in F1 was in the Scud/16M that they were prepared to use it in the 458 in case the DCT didn't perform as they wanted it to.

Oh geez. Sorry to hear about your dad's experience. The internet and forums definitely have brought issues out and benefited car buyers.

Very interesting. From the cars I've driven, I have no complaints about the F1 transmission because it is fast but still usable at low speeds, especially the later ones in the Scuderia and 16M.

Thank you. It all worked out though as he got the money and put it into a used Ferrari 612 (per my recommendation). He likes it a lot better than he did the Panamera.

Yeah I don't mind F1 either. It's not even that bad at low speeds in the standard F430. It probably wasn't great around town in the F355 and 360. But it was pretty dialed in by the F430.

My Dad has the F1 in the 612 too and it's not bad in that big heavy car either. It's usable in auto mode and really smooth if you shift gears yourself.

No prob! Feel free to shoot me any questions that might come up.

Most people on Oppo loves the 456 and ignores or dislikes the 612. But I suspect most have never had a ride in either. I haven't been in the 456 yet but read that the 612 has more rear leg room. And judging by the pictures of the 456 there is NO comparison between the interiors of the 456 and the 612.

The 612's interior is genuinely nice. And some of them came equipped with both front and rear parking sensors, most or all had nav and bluetooth, and the leather is nice. Some had the carbon fiber interior trim. There are more creature comforts than you get in a 599.

With 3 I think I would go:

16M: any available blue with yellow, white or grey stripe (would have to be flexible on stripe/accent colors since not ordering new)

Standard Spider 6MT: one of a couple reds I like

Scud: either black with yellow stripes or red with black stripes, depending on which one became available

And if a 6MT coupe was added I'd go with the silverstone grey

Glad you're alive and well!

Haha you should jump in anyways. How amazing is that Alfa? Maybe one of the top 10 prettiest cars of all time, including classics. I love the headlights.

How funny you see my convos all the time. I am a Kinja novice. I don't know how to actually follow people. I just hit the button anyways. I go really off topic with people and have long convos so hopefully I haven't said anything too stupid that you saw, hahaha.

Sorry I need to go be alone for a while...

My gawd. Dat car.

I need to stop eating expensive food every day and stop going out on dates and with friends. Need to be a hermit and save money faster so I can get a 16M. Just look at it. I honestly think I'd rather have it than pretty much any other Ferrari right now.

It's really pretty. I want.

hmmm, really? A novice? Haha. I dunno about all that. No, I won't do that- join anyway. That's like, invading your space. It's weird. No, I haven't seen you write anything stupid. Quite the opposite, actually.

Have a good weekend!

Haha yeah I am still a novice. I don't know many Kinja things and too lazy to learn cause they'll just change them!

At least feel free to join in if I say something funny for once, haha

Glad I haven't said anything stupid. And good thing you followed me before I told my friend all about my last two ex's and how they affected my life. That would be embarrassing for you to see all that, haha.

Have a good weekend too! Go San Antonio! And go Rangers, no more losing!

Eh, we all have shitty-ex stories. You can talk to me about that. I don't mind. I like hearing about that stuff. It gives me perspective.

Are you on twitter?

Haha so funny because I just now got a text from the crazy ex out of the blue. Had not talked or texted in a while. She is complaining that her car broke down. I was so tempted to say "WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS?" but I didn't because I'm too nice. She treated me like crap and I still tried to make her feel better.

I am not on the twitter. Is it cool?

Soooo nice.

My dad just left the office in his 612. The sound of that V12 is glorious.

If you didn't already have a pair of GTs and the 12C then a 16M or 8C would make so much sense. But you already have so many mid-engine two seaters. A front engine Ferrari V12 just sounds sooo right.

I wonder if the 6MT 599 I found for sale a month ago is still listed. It was a dark metallic red over a very light interior. It was either a very light beige or white. Very unique. I had never seen a 599 with the gated shifter for sale before.

Hahahaha I am such a sucker. It's comical at this point.

That does give me an idea. I should go home, swap into one of the bimmers, then drive up to her place in LA. Instead of helping out I should say "oh your bimmer is in the shop you say, SUCKER mine still works. See ya."

Except I wouldn't do that...

It's totally fair that you are taking my side. Trust me there is no side of the story where she gets any sympathy. At all.

Ah I see, the twitterverse has a private message function

Yikes. Lol. I don't talk to any of my exes. Ever. I never date people within my circle of friends, work, hobbies, etc. It's just easier that way.

I don't like to talk about anything personal in a public forum. It's kind of a rule I have.

Yeah. At this point I'm talking to realtors to identify potential store locations, drawing up business plans, and deciding on potential manufacturers. Next, I'll initiate contact through email and get the ball moving that way and if things appear promising, I'll officially meet with the companies. As if my plate wasn't full already.

Haha I can only imagine how tough it is to make time when you don't have much.

If you have an espresso machine then you should make Italian espresso to help with the project. I bought some good beans the other day and the results are tasty.

You must share this picture with your son and encourage him to upgrade to making his own espresso.

I bought this brand because it's the "Ferrari of Espressos", haha.

Kinja'd!!!

Also an idea for your wife's possible store - customers could receive a free and freshly made Italian espresso with every purchase of $25 or more. The bag of beans is only $8 and makes a lot of espresso shots. And a good machine is quick and easy to use and clean.

You're welcome! I made the switch from quick and easy to grinding my own espresso beans 6 months ago. Once I got used to it the whole process actually became pretty quick and easy. It's only a pain at first but once you get some experience you learn tricks that make it quicker. For example if you wash the espresso out immediately after making a shot it comes out easily. If you leave it there it dries and gets hard to scrape off.

Haha no need to pay me for business consulting. Just give me a ride in one of your cars one day :)
