So my parents are out of town this weekend, and I decided what better way to celebrate than washing my mom's Jetta! I also decided that I'd take some photos of it, and put them up here! So here, have a one car photodump!
Parked the car to the side here, to show off the 16' wheels.
This is what a rim looks after meeting a curb at 15mph... not pretty, but it's not too bad... right?
I think the photos above and below this text are the two best ones from the shoot. They just bring out the car's character!
This is what the middle passenger tends to see. Some black plastics, and some leatherette. Not the most refined place to be, but it certainly grows on you
Ah yes, the Volkswagen 2.5 5-cylinder engine. An age-old design that I think is actually quite wonderful. The engine gives this car a certain character. It rumbles nicely, and has a sweet induction sound. Although not considered one of VW's finest engines, it certainly has made the jetta worthwhile over our few years of ownership
and a close-up on the VW badge on the 2.5
And the most important for last! The 5-speed shift knob! Nothing special, I know, but there's just something satisfying to having this thing in your hand.
This jetta might be my mom's, and I'm probably going to forget all about how awesome it was when I got the juke, but right now, I'm in love with it. It's the first new car we bought in the states, and it's a good one. It drives well, it sounds well, and to be honest, it's considered pretty cool by guys even! It doesn't matter that it has the 2.5, or that it still has rear drum brakes. The fact is, it's a great car that for some reason gives off a really childish character, and is a blast to drive fast!

All this post I was like, agree, agree, agree, double agree! I loved how it looks in black, and it IS kind of quirky and special to drive. And I only got to sample the Auto! I wish so much I could get my hands on a manual 2.5 with IRS like they sell here in Mexico

Some nice pics!
I'm usually sad whenever someone buys a car like this, but when there's a stick in between the seats, all is forgiven and then some. I give all my respect to people that buy/drive manuals, because if we don't then they'll really start to disappear.

My mom doesn't "do" automatics, so it had to be the stick. The had 3 jettas on the lot that had a manual. This 2.5, a grey 2.5 with the sun/sound package, and a base 2.0.
We got this one since my mom loved how it looked in black! It's truly been a great car to learn how to drive in, and it has taught me how to be naughty behind the wheel as well!

GOOD, your mom is clearly awesome. Mine is the same way, it's just that her knee has given out. Or else that's all she'd be driving.
Can't wait for the Juke to arrive.

Give your mom a high five for driving a car with a stick.

Your mom is awesome! Trying to get my mother to drive stick would be like......Trying to rob a bank with a ballpoint pen that you stole from a competitor bank.

yes, my mom is awesome! she can get a bad case of the "red mist" when driving though. AS you know, Jettas have a top speed limiter of 130mph. well, ours has been up to said 130mph limiter. So yeah, my mom can drive...
AND NEITHER CAN I! I've been waiting so long (it's been a week) AND THERE'S LIKE 12 TO GO!

very. I did all of that with just water, a sponge, and a cloth.
It took the better part of 2 hours!

I'd literally be going crazy by now.
How are you not overdosed on Youtube videos, photo galleries, and forum activity of your car yet!?!

I OD'd like twice before I got home to see the Fiesta. The closer it gets, the more you want.

Exactly! got rock the stick! It's such a good pair for the 2.5! pulls in 3rd like a freaking freight train!
...And I hate to say it, but with some smooth shifting, it could match your A8's 0-60 :P

My wife is the same, she's just not interested in driving an automatic. I prefer driving a manual but can also enjoy an automatic, particularly for commuting (though I don't agree with anyone who says an auto is essential for commuting).
When we bought a car off my dad last year to be our "second" car, it became my DD because it was an auto. I'm not looking forward to the day when I have to tell my wife that the car that best suits her needs doesn't come in a manual.
