Awesome! Props on doing 33 MPH on a hybrid! My road bike top speed is only 35 mph, but then again I live in a really flat area.

also, It used to be my brother's bike and he took it down the hill at the national center for atmospheric research in boulder, colorado and did 49.5 mph. I'm not THAT crazy.

Im a regular at around 30mph on a triathalon bike, but 49.5 would scare the hell out of me on a bike....

my normal pace is in the 22-24mph range, taking hills close to 40, but i havent broken 40 yet.

When i started riding on roads, it was on an old, heavy steel frame 10 speed prince. Now that i have a bike thats half the weight, I feel free as a bird, and my pace shot up drastically.

i need to get my computer a new battery, because I couldnt tell my speeds on Monday when I went out. Mostly flat and small hills, i know I didnt get over 20mph because Ive been a lazy shit and havent gotten out recently, but i felt great afterwards. Need to start biking more, but i just have no time lately.

also need new front chainrings because theyre pretty bad and the chain needs some lovin too....

I need to adjust the shifter, about a mile from my house I lost the ability to shift into 1st on the crank, I'm also thinking of putting road tires on it for the summer, my brother has them stashed somewhere.

check that the cable is tight. If its been a while, it may have stretched a bit. Ive had cables break on me a couple times on the old bike because a lot of the metal is getting a little rusty and sharp.

im stuck with some conti ultra race tires, theyre okay, but i wanted gatorskins, but couldnt get them for a reasonable price at the time. If you dont have to worry about glass or potholes, totally go for it.

ya, the cables have been replaced a couple of times but its been a while, so they may need replacing. If you want good road tires, my brother rides waaaay more than I do, He currently rides a 2011 Fuji Roubaix he bought new and that has close to 5000 miles on it, He had conti grand prix 4000s tires on there since june 2013, he just yesterday had to replace them

Took my MTB for a 14 mile ride last week (first ride of the season) and I could hardly walk for a few days afterward. I forgot how bad knobby tires are for anything other than dirt or gravel

thats why I ride a hybrid on the road, Big tires + smooth road = comfortable ride

this is my bike, a K2 Astral 2.0 (modified a little bit):

Nice bike! I'm thinking of picking up another 29er wheelset and putting some road tires on it for when I'm just cruising around town. Hopefully that will translate into less road noise and more energy being transmitted to propulsion instead of sidewall squish and rolling resistance

but your mtb will still be heavier than my bike

My fat ass could benefit to lose a few pounds, so that extra weight I'm lugging around on the frame and wheelset is just extra energy I have to expend. All of the sudden it's not such a bad thing

29er wheelset with conti hardshell 35c tires. i'm slow on it though.. probably avg 2-3mph slower than the outgoing road bike I had

I'll venture into road bikes in a few years, but I'm still relatively young and still kind of stupid enough to hit the trails

i have a 29er hardtail for that. just don't go off huge jumps and you'll bike for decades ;)

I'm starting to think that biking might be one of these lifelong hobbies I'll have. Hockey will always be my passion, but my body is already starting to take a beating at the ripe age of 25. Bicycles don't look so violent

It ended up being that the front barrel adjuster was moved and the front derailer needed to be re-adjusted. It could have happened when I jackknifed while testing the brakes after a rain storm a couple weeks ago

Did you go down when that happened? If so, that would do it. If you didnt go down, I dont see why it would have given you trouble...
