They didn't do a terrible job on the conversions, they just didn't do the right models.

Or do anything at all.

It is a real R33. It's just not a GT-R. That's why it has no flares.

Given that he doesn't mention key things like customs clearance paperwork and/or a "Bond Release", it's not legal. Also, it's way too cheap to be legal. There are only a very, very, few legal R33's.

Here's the governments guide to the law:

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/imp…

It's just a guide though...the actual laws are a horribly complex maze of literature. You can google the specific statutes mentioned on that website.

You can also visit www.gtrusablog.com. That's a site ran by an importer, Sean Morris, who also used to be a Motorex employee. There's a lot of information on his site about exactly what Skylines are legal and why.

The basics are, no new R33 or R34 skylines can be imported until they are 25 years old. The realisty is you *could* try to legalize them...There is an R33 on the 'eligibility list' but you can't really do it, because it's next to impossible to convert it to meet standards.

R32 GTS and GTS-T's are becoming legal right now because they were manufactured 25 years ago to the month. R32 GT-R's will be legal in August. You can get a Nismo R32 GT-R right now under show and display laws (see the NHTSA website).

You can also get a Spec V R34 under S&D. I know someone selling a grandfathered in R33 GTS-T for $40k. It's bond released and an ex-Motorex car.

That Spec V R34 thing is weird according to Sean Morris. I won't pretend to be a Skyline model expert, but I think he says Nissan doesn't have a separate designation for 'early models' like the Show and Display list says...Have you ever seen anyone claim to have a S&D R34? Then there's the OBD-II issue. Until that R34 is 21 years old, it still has to be modified to meet EPA. That means developing an OBD-II system for it...So you have to wait until 2020 to get one without paying a metric shit ton of money.

I wonder if $40k is too high for an R33 now. With good condition legal R32's at $20-$25, I think it only makes sense to a diehard R33 fan to pay that. (I don't know many die-hard R33 fans).

I don't know anyone who claims to have an R34, but the Spec V is on the Show and Display list. And yeah, $40k is very high, but its also heavily modified.

Yeah, somebody got it there somehow...but I wonder if they ever got a car in...if they did, it meant they paid the money to go OBD-II...that would make it one very expensive R34...
