On cars with an average MPG readout (not an instant readout), what's the worst you have been able to gloriously achieve? Lets say minimum distance for the average is 5 miles. I offer this, but I'm sure somebody has it way beat:

I don't have an instant readout, but I've gotten a tank average of 9 once.

I drove my FR-S all winter and my average was around 12L/100km (19.6mpg) most of the time. My drive to work was short so the car probably spent more time warming up and defrosting than it did driving.

I usually get around 9.5L/100km (24.7mpg) under normal city driving conditions. The best I've seen on a highway trip was 6.6 (35mpg) over 600km.

I burned about half a tank stuck in a muck hole trying to get out. Which worked to about 5 gallons per foot.

5 mpg, and I've done it twice....once in a 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (towing a boat), and once in a 1985 gray market Range Rover with a Holley 650 carb—-(towing absolutely nothing).

I got 5 in my 1969 Imperial LeBaron on the first tank when I bought it... it needed a little TLC. I eventually got that car up to an average of 13 MPG.

I've done 8.5MPG indicated in my BMW on the track. The gauge is a liar though. The fillup average on track is normally between 9.2-9.5MPG

Yes, 3 laps of the track is 6 miles.

I'll say this. The 1998 C2500 I used to have had a 25 gallon tank and if it was only driven around town, it would be lucky to get 200 miles out of the tank. That was scary. The best MPG I ever got from it was about 16-18mpg.

I got down to 4 mpg when I was driving a 79 Buick Electra once. It had a 503 engine that would twist the whole car when I revved it. I was racing my friend and had to refill ~25 gallons after going 100 miles. I was so relieved when that car died. I don't think I could afford that car nowadays. I miss the dollar a gallon of gas.

BMW Z4 3.0si. N52 engine, which was designed to be more fuel efficient than the M54 it replaced.

Long, sweeping tracks like Roebling Road will do that to your consumption.

Lol. I have no picture proof so you will have to take me at my word, but my old Mustang (built NA motor with a big cam and 4.10 gears) used to get about 7.6 MPG just driving normally. Under hard driving the MPGs were so low they wouldn't register on the digital readout.

3 miles, less than 8 minutes, some freeway, and as few upshifts as I could reasonable manage.

In my parents' H2 I once got the instant readout to zero, but I don't think it would be possible to keep it that low for the purposes of doing a 5 mile average.

Car's too old for a digital readout, but since others are participating I'll throw mine 5 mpg in as well. I don't know if it gets that in normal driving, or if my normal driving with that car just keeps the secondaries open more than they should be, because I only got up to 8 mpg on one tank. Old car with a big engine, 20 gallon tank and have to fill up every 100 miles.

Do you like that track? I know off topic, but I'm going home to Savannah soon for an autocross there and want to know what to expect. And I'm surprised at your car's fuel consumption! My friend with his JB4'd 335i averages about 9mpg running the high boost map/e85 when we go snow hooning/auto-crossing/Road America laps.

I was doing road racing, which will suck a little more fuel down than autocross and cones.

For the amateur set, Roebling is good as there are large runoff areas, so you aren't instantly screwed if you cock it up. Just embarrassed.

Foot to the floor and causing the ECU to go into open loop mode will destroy consumption figures. I suspect with the E85 car being slower than an E90, there is more opportunity to be at full throttle. So a higher consumption figure from the slower car may not be entirely unexpected.
