I have three favorites! The first one was I believe a 1929 Pierce-Arrow model B. But I can't be sure. I saw it last year when I went to an Amish auction near Berlin, Ohio. Needless to say luxury used to be far classier and more beautiful during and right before the great depression. A phaeton with coach doors. Wish I could have talked to the owner this car is perfect.
Another great find in the wild was this White tour bus that was used in Yellowstone national park. 400 were originally in service in 1925. I assume they were used in national parks across the country. Roughly 200 were destroyed in a fire. I am guessing not many of these classic touring cars are still left in existence today. Believe it or not I saw this car on the same day at the Pierce-Arrow. Needless to say that was a good day. For those interested here is a summary of the bus on desertsclassics:

Now this final car needs no introduction. We take vacations on Sanibel Island in Florida where my grandparents have a house 5 minutes from the causeway. There is also an outlet mall and when this F40 pulled up I about peed my pants. An F40... In the wild! I was so speechless I could only tell the owner he had a beautiful car. This is my personal favorite find in the wild.
TLDR: What is your best car you've ever found in the wild?

Crazy, mine is an F40 too. Yellow though which is what makes it the coolest! Speaking of yellow cars, my friends found one of the first LFAs in NJ and tailed it forever snapping pics.

I have seen a 458, but the craziest one I saw was a Pontiac Firefly with a LS1 in it. So loud, so dangerous.

For me, its an F40 or an SSC Ultimate Aero.

I'm not sure, but I did see an NSU Ro80 (late '60s, Wankel engine) on the Autobahn two days ago. That certainly was pretty cool.

I still get excited when i see a C7. But the answer is a yellow F50 when I was like 12 years old. Time literally froze.

I got a story for you then. I was leaving a car show and after hooning an afternoon away I was running close to E on the freeway. Nearing my exit, I noticed what appeared to be a Euro-spec 930 Turbo barreling down behind me; mind you I've got a range of 14 miles till empty and a gas station off my exit 5 miles away. So what did I do? I FLOORED IT AN RAN LIKE HELL! When the 930 realized what I was doing, he floored it and passed me doing 110+mph. Snapped a few pics before it got away though. I had a range of 7 when I got off the freeway and babied the car to the gas station. 'Twas epic and worth it! :)

Not counting Cars and Coffee? Just randomly seen in the wild? A few come to mind:
- Ferrari F40
- Porsche Carrera GT
- Enzo Ferrari
- Lamborghini Jarama
- Rolls-Royce Camargue

I saw a Saleen S7 in Houston once when I was a kid.
No pics, there was no such thing as a camera phone back then, I didn't have a disposable on me, and the closest thing I had to a digital camera was this plastic piece of crap that could take 8 pictures at 1 megapixel in black and white.
![]() 05/29/2014 at 12:08 |

Damn that is cool. All F40s from the factory were red right?

I've seen a few E-Types which are forever cool. I've seen an RT GT Spider, one of 333 in the world. But, by far and away the coolest was this:
not my video, but seeing it in person was unreal.

Save the whales! Too cool.

I had no idea a Pontiac Firefly was even a car. Glad to hear it has a good heart though.

Never heard of it. Must not have imported any over the Atlantic. I would have guessed 70s/80s with the styling.

Yes and some where repainted by Pininfarina (just read on the internet)

F40! Times two, Two in the wild.

I agree with the C7 thing. And yes thats how I felt with the F40

You saw an SSC in the wild? Are there even 25 of those in the world? That's a find.

During Halloween a few years ago I was in Austin Texas with a couple friends. The day of the 31st we were just walking around town when I spotted this:
One of the real-deal cars! It was parked outside of a hotel with a crowd around it. I couldn't hardly believe it. Greatest wild find ever!!!
![]() 05/29/2014 at 12:20 |

Now is that home made? Or an actual movie car?
![]() 05/29/2014 at 12:21 |

That is an awesome find on Halloween!

I did indeed, in Florida. That thing was crazy looking. I have pics but they are on one of my old phones. I'll try to find. It was silver with thin black striping, I think. We turned into the same lot, and I talked to him about it. He let me sit in it while he started it. It was nuts.

the top 3 for me:
- Lamborghini LM002
-F40
-McLaren SLR 722

They imported some, but not many.

Many of the cars I am about to list will not have photos to accompany them because I couldn't whip my phone out in time. Time to pull an SR20!
((btw, I see 458s, Gallardos etc all the time, so those won't be counted))
Ferrari F50 - it was stuck in traffic but when it cleared, the driver floored it. Glorious sound!
Aston Martin V8 Vantage from 1977 - brown too!
Chevrolet Corvette C4 convertible - you can see it on Google Maps here !
Gumpert Apollo S - whizzed past my school's bus stop.
McLaren F1 - I'm positive I got a peek of it through a security lockup.
Aston Martin DB5 (two!) - the first was a green one being serviced by a local garage. The second one was in the same lockup as the McLaren.
Ford Mustang Convertible (the original) - cruised past me on the way home from school.
Ferrari Daytona Spider - cruised past me on my way to lunch
E30 and Ferrari 308GTS combo - owned by the same person with similar paintjobs.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
TVR 280S - just delivered to its new owner.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Unrestored BMW 503 - gorgeous old thing.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
TVR Chimaera - I see this guy semi-regularly actually, but it's one of only 3 TVRs I know that exist in Hong Kong.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And the best one was when I was living back in Ireland and on the way home from the city, an entire classic car rally happened to stop in our village for lunch. I remember some nice old lady inviting me to sit in her Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire Limousine. It had a green and black two tone paintjob and gorgeous green leather interior. It was very lovely, right up until the moment her Yorkshire Terrier woke up, jumped over the front bench and started licking me all over my face. I got such a shock that I fell out the car!
And that's about as much as I can remember!

Very cool. I can't imagine how fast that car accelerates.

I want a 722 so bad.

Wow all great finds. Funny how a Mustang and a Corvette is rare where you live. But mostly common here in the states.
![]() 05/29/2014 at 12:49 |

'Tis very rare where I live, that being Hong Kong. Classic cars are a rarity here and any that do exist live in air conditioned car parks.

Vacations in Sanibel? My grandfather lives in the dunes.
His best friend took me for a spin in his f430 a few years back, nowhere you can really use all that power on the island cept for maybe Dixie beach road but awesome nonetheless

Home made, the only turbine powered one in the world. It's more realistic than the movie cars.

slr mclaren near harrods
porsche 911 gt2. Not as rare as the RS but still the coolest I've seen
I know the f12 isn't that rare but still awesome to me, first I ever seen and with a parking ticket lol
maybach 65 in London again, didn't quite understand from photos how crazy big this thing is
here's a hamann g55 amg parked (the guy lived there) on the same street as my girlfriend in London
I love love love the Ferrari FF, spotted near the Waterloo food market near south bank in London

Wow makes my selection look weak. I'd love to see a Huayra

I'm actually coming down next week and plan on golfing at the dunes. One of my favorite courses. I am usually there a week/week and a half and see more exotics than I do in Ohio all year. That being said it's not the greatest place for driving. So while I'd like to have a f430 there are no twisty roads for fun.
![]() 05/29/2014 at 14:04 |

Yes I did, parked right out front of the Ralph Lauren store and then got onto Summerlin and headed towards the island.
![]() 05/29/2014 at 14:05 |

Is it just me that would never want a replica Shelby?
![]() 05/29/2014 at 14:10 |

ahh okay cool, haven't been down there for a year or two. And yeah the amount if money there is crazy. I love seing the cars out in the sunlight. As for my selection, I saw more exotics daily in London than I have in my entire life beforehand, on,y natural I managed to catch some cool ones on camera
![]() 05/29/2014 at 14:15 |
|
I always wondered why London is crawling with exotics. Seems like people see more there than anywhere here in the USA
![]() 05/29/2014 at 15:11 |

I wondered why as well before I lived there for 4 months. Some of the areas like Kensington, Mayfair, and Knightsbridge are just oozing with money, I think a lot of it can be put down to the fact that it's such an international super center, be loaded Executives from all of the huge global headquarters of many companies or middle eastern oil princes.
And while there are some ludicrously expensive penthouses and apartments and the like, cars become another display of wealth for most. It doesn't hurt that the pound has a pretty strong buying power than most other places.
Whatever it is, I appreciated it. I could just walk around ridiculously wealthy areas and daydrink (because there are no open container laws) and car watch all day. At least most of the owners it got the opportunity to talk to seem to be real enthusiasts though which is always a good thing
![]() 05/29/2014 at 15:13 |

And haha no not just you, I wouldn't want one either cause you'd have to tell people as such. To drive though for a bit would be a different story, you probably can't mess up the formula too badly, and it would be a hoot to hoon
![]() 05/29/2014 at 18:53 |
|
You'd have to be to put up with driving a super car in such a crowded city!
![]() 05/29/2014 at 18:53 |

I would love to take one for a drive but then to tell people I own a fake. I would have to hang my head in shame.
