If you click on 'formatting options' at the top-right of the dialogue box, select the picture upload icon (2nd in from the right) and paste the picture url into the box there.
Press insert and hey-presto.

That is my problem. Flickr has 3 sharing options, a flic.kr link (should be direct-ish), an HTML, and a BBCode thing. Neither of these worked when pasted them into the box and pressed insert... I will try again tomorrow or something, anyway, thank you for your time and help!

The way I do it is go to the 'download/all sizes' bit and copy the image url. That's the bit that seems to work:
