The belt gets wet and then it sprinkles all over the nice and clean engine that i worked so hard on. Oh and sometimes it slips for a second and you feel less power.

Or sometimes it splashes up over the top of the engine and the cold water hits your hot ceramic spark plugs and then Bad Things ™ happen.

Luckily that has never happened to me.

It's only an issue if you hit more than a few inches of water while at speed, like say, being at work when Hurricane Sandy hits and rushing home as quickly as possible before the roads get any worse.
Removing cracked spark plugs is a major pain in the ass because the last thing you want is for a ceramic "crumb" to fall back down the hole and into the cylinder.

Riight....and so it happened to you personally?

A spark plug exploding, yes. Having to pull off the cylinder head to remove an errant piece of spark plug? Thank god no!
