I got a job, and may need to drop my car and get something better or more reliable.

I'd love to grab a focus ST or GTI, but I want a car with 4 doors and some sportiness and lower mileage (30k or less) and fairly new. $20k seems a bit steep though maybe I could swing it, I'd rather not.

I made a post earlier about the GTI vs ST, but searching my area on auto trader and cars.com or Carmax shows only higher mileage cars for a decent amount lower than $20k.

I'm not sure what I would do. I don't really want to settle for something I don't enjoy at all...

suzuki kizashi

Cheap, good handling, reasonable power, simple. Should be cheap to insure and a nice reliable car to own for a few years. That particular one is 14k with only 13k miles on it and is a 2012 model. My advice would be to drive that for 3 or 4 years, build credit, save money on the side, and then buy something nicer afterwards. It isn't a soul crushing car to drive either. Get some new wheels and extra sticky summer tires for autocross and weekend drives.

I was shopping G8's, first gen CTS-V, S60 R, TSX, and TL's last time I was looking for a car. Your criteria sounds a lot like mine.

I went through this. My 21 year old volvo had fuel issues and was costing me. new job....got a $16k truck. Do you really want debt of $300/mo. On a new job? you dont need to spend that. I know everyonr wants awesome because we havent had it forever but hold off would ya? That truck was a bad idea. should have bought a impreza 2.5rs unicorn for less. Id still have it 2 cars later. i urge reliable and what you need but build that financial base before building a bigger payment.

Pick up a Mazda 2, you can get one with under 30k for about 12, and if you put $2500 into it it becomes a proper hot hatch. Slow enough to not get you into trouble, but not too slow where you can't have any fun. I have seen guys on the 2 forums that come from miatas, Speed3's, and s2000s that have MORE fun with their 2 after even just $1000 in mods. I average 37-38 mpg in mine, and that will go up once I get a short ram intake. Also, the clutch is really light, which is incredibly annoying at first when you are getting used to it, but you can't beat it for commuting in traffic.

what's your current ride if it's got 4 doors or you don't want to part with it you could pick up a decent crx for about 4 grand and they're super reliable and average 60mpg
