Any cyclists out there?

I got a new bike. I'm getting used to it. I had a rather unpleasant end of my ride on Monday. I've heard of your hand falling asleep. Or your foot. I didn't realize certain other things can fall asleep. Have any other cyclists had this issue?

You need a less, err, restricting saddle, methinks. There is some great stuff out there, just google it. Comfort matters.

yes, it absolutely happens if your bike isn't set up quite right. Remember when you were a kid and could just ride all day and not have to worry? Get a saddle designed for men. They are the ones with a big grove in the middle. It makes a huge difference.

adjust or change your saddle. I used a brooks leather for a long time that was the best once it broke into your, um, bits and pieces. I had a flyte that would make my whole groin region go numb.

What kind of bike is it? A road bike? A commuter bike?

A Diamondback Podium 1 road bike.

You need a saddle with a "love channel".

No joke.

Yes this can happen but in most cases it's due to the bike not being fitted to you.

LEGS:

1) Make sure your sit bones fit on your seat. When sitting on your seat, you shouldn't be sitting on your (the area between your genitalia and butt hole). You should be sitting on two little bones slightly behind it. If they fit on the seat you're set. (Note: softer saddle =/= more comfort)

2) Your leg should be slightly bent at the lowest pedal point when sitting on the bike. Adjust the seat accordingly.

3) If you're using clipless pedals, play with the shoe adjustment if you're getting foot numbness.

HANDS:

The most common cause of this is due to the handle bars being too low for your flexibility level. Raise the stem and do hamstring exercise to increase lower back flexibility.

Also focus on keeping your wrists straight and move your hands around. Don't just grip the same place. Lastly, for some people a pair of padded gloves help.

GENERAL

If it's a road bike I suggest shelling the 120$ to get everything adjusted and fitted as it's completely worth it (there are more expensive fittings that are around 600$ using computers etc but if you're a beginner they're not worth it).

Are you using it for commuting purposes, or for training/road riding? Either way, being fitted at a good local bike shop can get your numbness issues sorted out.

I'm using it primarily for exercise and fitness. I plan to take it to a local bike shop but it is a 10 mile ride to the shop and I need to find a day where I've got that kind of time.

I actually don't use my cycling gloves for riding my bike. My hands are comfortable with the bars I have. However, I do have some gloves if it ever becomes an issue.

Your hands are becoming numb because there is too much pressure on your palms, the gloves should reduce that pressure

Sorry, I didnt read the article correctly, ya get a new saddle, It took me a while to find one that fit my sit bones. just be aware it might get expensive and you might need an old saddle, the only saddle my brother could find that fit him has been discontinued for 14 years, if it needs to be replaced, he is out of luck.

the specialized romin saddle works great for me, but everyone's different. I got the medium wide one.
