Yes, it's a bad idea. I mean why pay 12k+ from a dealer when you can find them for less then 8500 on Craigslist.

Does that mean a Corvette with 150k is a good idea?

With the exception on of GM build quality, the engine and manual transmission should be pretty reliable. Also cheap to fix.

Why would you want a high mileage corvette?

As long as you're looking at late C5s and not early C5s, not that bad of an idea.

go into your wallet and get your bank card out. bend it back and forth 150 times. results are pretty much the same.

I want a high-mileage 1990 ZR-1. Why high mileage? Because low-mileage cars are the garage queens and I don't want pay for a garage queen when all I want is a driver.

Why a 1990? I'd take any year C4 ZR1! And that's a valid point, one that I plan to exercise if/when I buy an Elise. Or if you plan on replacing every part in the car with aftermarket pieces, a clean high mileage car ticks many boxes.

Love corvettes, i can say they're really reliable with those LS engines, but my advice to you is, if the price is sketchy then keep looking. They are lots of cheap C5 corvettes for sale in excellent condition so don't stop till you find the right one at the right price. Thanks C7 for dropping the prices on these babies

I want the black belt-line, which is unique to 1990. Also, I was born in 1990, so sentimental value there.

There are a couple. EX01 and EX02. I have also seen '89s converted into ZR-1s using '90 ZR-1 panels and LT5s.

I'm looking for a cheap truck and that's kind of how I feel about the early 2000s Silverados. My buddy had one and there's some oddball stuff that goes wrong but nothing that would stop you frombeing able to drive it.

Just be prepared to rebuild the transmission. Out of the 5 GM products we've owned, 1 hasn't needed a new transmission at under 100k miles. 2 if you count our PonYota.

I'm not really that afraid of transmissions, I've had to rebuild my Escort's trans a few times but that's a manual.
We pulled the trans apart on my buddy's pick up. I was trying to talk him into a rebuild because I wanted to try it but it didn't look too bad.
Maybe pull the trans out during the week, rebuild Saturday, reinstall Sunday?

I've heard of em being dropped in the afternoon, rebuilt on the tailgate, and put back in at night. It's one of the simpler and cheaper transmissions to work on.
