Nissan has just launched the current Micra in Canada as our lowest-priced car on the market. You can get a base-model for just $9998 Canadian dollars ($9,195.62 American bucks). It comes with the Versa's powertrain, with a 4-speed automatic replacing the CVT.

Kinja'd!!!

On the inside, it's a lot like a Versa, save for having the steering wheel of a cube, and can be personalized with go-faster stripes and other accessories.

Here's one from the Toronto Autoshow in February, sitting on some OZ Turismos.

Just wondering what Oppo thinks, and whether or not they think it should come to America.

If I could get one with the Juke powertrain as a Nismo Micra, then I would be VERY interested. As it is? Not really.

I actually saw one yesterday when I was bored cruising the lots to look at the new STi. Really its better looking than the Versa, Cube and Leaf so I think its a step in the right direction.

For 10k, you will see a lot of kids driving these around. Insurance will be double your monthly payment for sure.

I wish they'd sell it down here. Why don't they offer it in the US? Don't they realize that we're becoming a third-world country, rich getting richer, poor getting poorer.

We desperately need a sub-10k car, and if the Micra meets CMVSS it also meets FMVSS. Why go through all that shit for such a tiny country when you can also sell it in a country 10x the size? Besides, even if only 10% of subcompact shoppers opt for the Micra, they're doubling their sales!

I'd buy it before a Versa, that's for sure, and I love any company that can put out a really cheap car.

However, it's basically a cheaper Chevy Spark, with probably far less safety equipment.

Also, is the Micra disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear like the spark? Because if it was 4-wheel drum brakes, that's a dealbreaker.

Actually, it's more the size of a Mazda 2. It still has six airbags and stuff, but is just unbelievably cheap.

If it had that, it would have a 1:10 power to weight ratio, which is about the same as a base 370z. That's impressive. Stopping it would scare me though.

Well braking gear would be upgraded accordingly as well. The thing can't weight that much. Should be able to be stopped pretty quickly.

This is for me the third or fourth coolest Nissan product on sale. I really like it a lot, MILES more than the Versa, which is probably my least favourite car on sale today. I like it, and if it was in america t would sell pretty darn well.

4-wheel drums? Have there been any car available with those in the last three decades?

If it is the same Micra they get in Japan, then yeah, good car. If it is a tarted up Spark, then no...Just...No.

I guess it's welcome in the Canadian market due to the limited offerings of other manufacturers in this class, but we can do without in Europe. The Micra doesn't really excel in anything and isn't the best complete package either.

Can't you guys get it with a manual? A classic slushbox sucks the life (and fuel economy) out of a car like this.

I have a huge soft-spot for the K11. No idea what the K13 is like, but it definitely looked cuter before the facelift and that interior looks awful. :\

There's just the one Micra (except that it's called a March in Japan but never mind). No, it's nothing to do with a Spark.

I can't speak for the present model yet but my mother has had every previous model and they've all been fine. Reliable, economical, easy to drive, bit like driving a domestic appliance if you like that kind of thing (and many do).

I saw a few with the Micra badge on them last summer when I was there. it may just be like the guys here that change to JDM badges, I guess.

There are honest little cars, and then there are absolutely god-awful little shitboxes bought by people who have absolutely no interest in motoring as long as they have a chair and the ability to move slowly from their bungalow to the bingo hall.

I'd rather ride a fucking unicycle than drive a Micra.

Oh piss off back to Pistonheads then, if you want to be all smug.

Sure, they're driven by pensioners mostly, and the Fiesta is the best-driving supermini, but they're nice enough.
