Leave it to BMW to come up with a brilliant organization scheme, but then completely ruin it with needlessly complicated and lengthy names.
I think the worry is that "Everything" has to be branded. You can't just say it has "four wheel drive", you have to brand it. And what BMW execs aren't getting through their heads is that every time you mention "Xdrive" you do gain brand recognition for "Xdrive", but not from nowhere, you gain it at the expense of the existing brand recognition for "5 series".

At least now the gran turismo and gran coupe monikers make sense to me now. I think the M6 Gran Coupe is a real beaut. Haven't seen a 4 Gran Coupe tho. If it's low enough, it may be worth it in looks and feel over a 3 Series.
