Also why am I 17? I feel like I won't be able to find these kind of things by the time I have my own driveway and money to throw at things.

Because we are realists. I decided to restore my Trans Am when I was 17 (I'm now 18) because I understood soon I will be drowning in student debt, have a house that requires money, have a job that takes all my time, have kids and a wife which means a potential end to my hobby, and that the price of the cars are only going to go up. Might as well enjoy ourselves while we have the time. Wow, that sounded depressing. On the up side, driving an old car to school makes you feel like a bad ass.

These are all the reasons my summer is guna be music festivals, beach BBQs, beers and car hunting. May as well live it up while I'm young and have a little cash.

My summer is running, car work, then real work which is truck work.

I have next year. Driving a silver Saab doesn't give off the car enthusiast vibe I'm trying to get across to my friends.

I'm a lazy student and therefore allergic to this "real work". I expect there to be a lot of car work though, since I have money for a car... provided I buy it in poor condition and repair it myself.

Why? The better question is 'why not?'. It's a great way to learn auto repair and by he time you're done, it'll be YOUR car done the way YOU want it. You'll know it so well you'll sleepwalk to your future garage and change its oil one day.

I already have the Dodge and a Saab that gets broken enough to qualify as a project. My mom doesn't want me to get any more cars. It's just because I live with my parents.

Because at 17 most people don't have a lot of money and a project car is a lot cheaper in the short run than a finished one. Plus now you get to build it to your vision instead of somebody else's. Then when you're done, as if that ever happens, you get to look at it and say, "I did that."

I had a project car at 17. Simply because I like working on cars :) nothing more to it than that
