I'm thinking of buying a cheap crapcan van to race in LeMons...

Specifically, one of these with the V6. Gut the interior, gut the doors, gut the hatch, gut the hood reinforcement, weld all but the driver's door shut, race? I found one for $400, so...

Also, no bumpers. Weight savings, yo.

FYI, from all reports you are looking at around $3500 to gt a car legal for lemons inc helmet & suit, plus driver fees.

Crapcan k-vans can be had for megacheap, more so even if the title is salvage or theres a little engine work to be done. Also some came with manuals and turbochargers!

Wait... Dis courage, right? Uhh...well...damage done I guess. LOL

Would need too much work to be competitive.

Aye. That's why I'm looking at the bottom of the barrel to start with.

And then make the Trackwagon-

Remove rear bench, mount two seat rails on the floor. Install racing buckets with harnesses. Do the same up front, for the driver and passenger. You now have a four-seat trackbus, known as Trackwagon, which you can sell rides in.

My friend and I originally decided this would be the fate of an autocross Subaru wagon fi I got one, but I give you permission to steal the idea. You're welcome

Ooh, if I get a later one with the 3rd row... 6-seat trackbus!

No, that's the price to get a car and driver ready no matter what the starting point is. You can't scrimp on safety and pass inspection.

I know. The budget has to scrimp somewhere, and the base car is where it gets cut. Not on the safety.

Do eet.

Although you'd probably need to leave the bumpers on since they generally want cars to have factory crash structures intact. It'd be worth an email to the tech people to see if bumpers—specifically—are needed or not.
