Custom built tubular chassis + SBC + Porsche 944 transaxle + Indiana's lax road laws= Late 60's style Formula One street car. Building the suspension would probably be the hardest part. What easy to find parts would you use to build something like this?

Personally, I wouldn't go for the SBC. Too much power for a ~500 kg car. If you want to use it on the street, you'd just die after a month. (I would) Either way, for the aesthetic you want to use thin double A arms up front and at the rear. Struts are out. In any normal road car, the suspension parts are space as widely apart as possible to make space. You want to have a car that is as narrow as possible for the aesthetic. What I mean to say is that to make it look halfway decent, you're going to need to fabricate something yourself. The hubs you can use from any other car that uses A arms either up front or the rear. The A arms themselves need to be all you. Walk up to an old F1 car with a tape measure I'd say.
At least, that is what 10 minutes thought experimenting gives me.

get a corvair, and a crown conversion for the V8, some steel for the chassis and some sheet metal for the body, going to need a lot of wood to make a buck to form to
