Since it saved Porsche from bankruptcy, I can forgive its faults, much like I can accept the Cayenne. Also there is a nice one near me for sale as well and I have to struggle constantly to not spend my flip money on it because that sucker will never make it back.

Yeah, that's how I feel. Although I have seen well sorted 924s do VERY well at autocross.

Upside - the van engine is probably cheaper to maintain than a 944 engine

Buy 924, buy LS1, insert said engine into 924. Win win. Some guy in Indy did this, his car is fast in the corners and the straights.

I could do the same thing to a miata for cheaper, and that's the better chassis

I'd look for a 944 or later variant for a little more money.

My girlfriend is a big Porsche fan and specifically a fan of 944's. I am tempted to get us a 924 because it is more affordable, van engine be damned.

If that's not a real Porsche, then my '04 isn't a real GTO.

Yeah but it wouldn't be a LS1 924. . . or at least that is my thinking. Plus the 924 is a hardtop!

I've always found it odd when people call the 924 'not a real Porsche'.
Park an Alfasud next to an 8C Mille Miglia and no-one will call the 'sud 'not a real Alfa'.
Strange how that works...
