For the Ecoboost 2.7. Ever since I found out it's a square engine with every trick in the book thrown at it, I've been waiting to see it in action. I think an AWD Fusion ST would be badass with one under the hood. Or maybe build a Lincoln version of the Focus with it in it to fight the S3!

I wonder if you can throw the 2.7 crank in the 3.5 for a screamer .

I just wish most of the current Ford engines were wider-bore, but they do aim for engine block weight savings.

2.7L Ecoboost? I haven't heard of this. What do we know about it so far? Any specs? Special features? What car(s) it's gonna go in?

And most importantly: Can I get a RWD Focus ST with this engine?!? :P

Unfortunately, the market is heading back towards stump-pullers. When I found the specs, I was extremely surprised to see that it was square. I can see why they'd need the stroke/torque for the 3.5 as it goes in the larger and heavier cars. But the smaller ones really need to be bored out for a bit more top end.

All we know so far is that its square, produces roughly ~310 HP and tq over 340.

And why not shove it in the back of a Fiesta? :p

I think it's all for fuel efficiency. Wider bores require heavier pistons, which adds more rotating mass than longer strokes, which only require longer cranks (and shorter conrods, so the mass isn't increased a whole lot). Even the mustang's 5.0 is a slightly undersquare engine right now.

Compensate with lightening up the car. I know that engine design shouldn't have to be made up for, but it's actually a dual fold solution. Lighter car needs less torque, so it could be a smaller engine that is just destroked. Its a vicious cycle of good results.

Aluminum all the things! That was my last article on HTT.
