He's RHR's HPD-contracted (Honda Performance Development) engineer for this season. It should be no secret really that Ryan Hunter-Reay is the race winner
It's a great follow-up to being Scott Dixon's engineer for 2013, where he won the Indycar driver's title back when Dixon was powered by Honda.
I'm so proud

The engine may be a Honda but it's made here in the USA by Americans, being designed also by Americans.....
... there's nothing Japanese about the engine really, aside from it being a Honda

Engine developed in Valencia, CA. Driving an Italian car built in Indiana. British built ECU, American/Japanese tires, and a British gearbox. Welcome to the 21st century.
Congrats to your buddy. Very cool. I had a friend who was with Wheldon when he won. It was good fun to cheat them on.

Even more conflicted! I think it's more fun to root for the home team but I don't where the teams are based!?

Yup. And the Chevy engines used in IndyCar are built in England.
