I'm the family failure now

So I'm taking the car lot job, as many of you know, and went home today to tell my parents the good news.

My mother, being her typical self, was supportive because she knows how much I love cars, and because she knows my brother did well in it. He just happened to squander all of his money.

My father took the opportunity to prop himself on his throne of righteousness and once again tell me how I'm screwing up my life. Then he went on a whole afternoon quest to kidnap my wife and I to look at houses in my hometown. Its an hour and 15 plus from my new job. And just as long if not longer from hers.

He was left even more unhappy that I was unwilling to put this burden on my wife or I. So now I'm the new family fuck up.

Fuck him.

Why not just stay living where you are now?

I feel for you. Having a passion for something is much better than doing something that you aren't happy with.

I honestly despise my main job, I hate it. Luckily my parents already have thought that I've screwed my life up enough, Haha.

We're currently living with my wife's parents. Part of the job getting was for a life upgrade and getting out on our own. But we still want to live in this area.

Just move about 30 minutes closer to work, It's not that bad of a commute. I've done that for years it gives me time to get over all of the work stuff and not bring it home with me. ...While I'm thinking of it, just remember, it is YOUR life to live, not his. The consequences and the rewards of this all stem from the decisions you make.

OOOHHHH, ok that makes sense then.

When making major life decisions, don't listen to anyone but yourself and your life partner.

I just made up that advice. It just makes sense.

Well right now, I'm about 25 minutes away from my new work. We would be looking to move that same distance, just from another reference point. I'm not trying to be any further than 30-40 minutes away. Unfortunately its a very traffic-heavy area. So that's not a whole far ways out.

No offense, you dad sounds like a twatwaffle, wait, no, that's what I nicknamed one of the waitresses at work (she endorses the name). You're dad sounds like an asshole. It's cool, mine is too. He wasn't always like that, but after a year working abroad, he doesn't love me anymore and is really awkward around me, like "why are you even here" awkward. Fuck it. Belive it or not, drinking has helped me a ton. After awhile, you forget all the bad.

He owned his own insurance agency. He somehow thinks being an insurance salesman is better than selling cars. He also thinks it would be okay to live an hour or more away from work, even though he's never lived any further than 15 minutes from his office.

Yeah. His perspective is like a funhouse mirror.

It's always seems the moms are supportive and the dads have to always shoot you down.

Same goes for me wanting to become a mechanic over an engineer. Mom thinks it's awesome because I'm into cars big time, dad thinks I'm an idiot for going down a career path that "doesn't pay well." Whatever.

No not flirt. I have been treated like a person at one car dealership. The rest treated me like a child even though I knew more about cars than them. The worst was one particular used car dealer. Test drove a car. Told him the rotors needed to be replaced. He asks why, like what happened. So I explained. He says "Oh. When a car does that it means the rotors are bad". No shit. That's why I said the rotors needed to be replaced.

I would love to be a pilot but the road there doesn't pay as much as people think until you make it up to the big planes, then you do pretty well. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep on slugging it away as a desk jockey, I'm too old to take that road now. Good luck! If you ever see me buzzing around in a Cessna, remember, I have no idea what I'm doing up there!
