Spoilers ahead

Today the Borg-Warner Trophy was presented to an American driver for the first time since 2006. That is a pretty substantial drought especially when you consider that the 500 is considered by many to be the pinnacle of American Motorsport and part of a series with limited appeal outside of America as well as a series made up of mostly American drivers, sponsors, and races. Ryan Hunter Reay entered the grandest cathedral of the American church of speed and took on the best that the world had to offer, and he will walk out having bested the rest and doing so he brought the title of the America's (and possibly the world's) greatest race back to its home country. This could be great for Indy Car if they play it right. They need to market the shit out of this American driver/hero who took the Indy 500 win back home.I should clarify that I am very much a proponent of foreign drivers participating in American Motorsport, . I just wanted to explore how this win could create a renewed american interest in American Motorsport and the Indy 500 in particular and really resonate with fair weather American race fans. I mean have you ever met an American that wanted America to lose to foreigners?

I wouldn't say the series is mainly made up of American drivers. Hell there are only two American drivers on the 3 mega teams (RHR and Kimball).

There are less American drivers than the combined total of foreign drivers, but there are more drivers from the U.S. than anywhere else. In fact, there are over twice as many drivers from America than drivers from the country with the 2nd highest number of competitors (Britain has 5 and America has 11). I should have said that that more Indycar drivers come from the U.S. than are from anywhere else. By my count there are 4 American drivers that have raced for the 3 mega teams so far this year (Andretti, Busch, RHR, and Kimball).

Lol I forgot about Andretti. Still I was more or less talking about season drivers, not 500 one offs like Bush and J.R.

Yeah I got what you meant. I was talking about there being more americans vs. other countries individually but the way I wrote it, implied more americans vs the world as a whole.
