Thinking of adding a dedicated cone assassin to the fleet. I'm not at all concerned about looks as long as everything is mechanically sound, nor am I concerned about resale value, as I will likely be it's last owner.

Anyway, I found this and I'm thinking of going out for a look.

Obviously, I wouldn't pay asking price, but this doesn't seem TOO far off.

That's not such a bad price actually. I think that car's worth about a grand.

I'd do $800-1000.

I'd say one in fair-good condition should go for around $2000.

I've thought about doing the exact same thing. $1000 would be my goal price

If you find one in the Ohio-Michigan-Pennsylvania-West Virginia area, let me know. I'm looking for a donor car for a buddy so he can start his own 7. No luck so far, trying to find something under 1000, as the frame/body is useless to us.

Agreed, money well spent.

Here is what I do

I set up IFTTT.com to constantly search my local craigslist for miatas, RX7s, and 1995-1997 Jaguar Xj6s all under about $1500 (actually I have like 20 different searches currently). It sends me an email whenever any of them get a hit.

It doesn't seem too far off. Hopefully it doesn't have a short nose crank and a fuckered up key way. That is the one main thing to look out for with that car. Look up how to tell if it has a SNC on Miata.net and the "Loc-tite" fix to see if you'd be willing to do it if the car does have a SNC motor. If it has the BNC anything below $1,000 would be a decent buy for a track rat car. If you are just going to autoX it you really don't have to worry about the timing belt and water pump because it is a non interference motor and you won't break anything if the belt breaks.

Bring cash and start low and try and get it for as cheap as you can then use the money you saved for good pads and new brake and clutch fluid and tires then drive the piss out of it. That is assuming it isn't riding on the stock shocks from 91, as they are most definitely blown to the point of not working anymore.

I'd go $450, and part it out. The body is just too far gone....

I have been thinking similar thoughts, but with added lightness. Non 91s seem to have stabilized around $2k-$4k.

You may have missed the part where I said looks are not important and I'm probably going to destroy it. Not sure if I'd want to make a pretty/clean car into my trackrat.

Not sure why anybody would buy an Ariel Atom any more.

I got that part down that you aren't going for cosmetics. Except that a rough exterior may also hint to rough internals. Not all of the time though.

Totally agree that an exterior like this usually does not indicate the most careful of owners, but what has me interested is that the Interior actually seems to be in pretty good condition, the dents could have been the cause of the salvage title (if recent), and honestly a car will just end up looking like this if it has to live outside in Oregon.

I'd give the engine bay a quick one over, but (with the exception of SNC issues) these engines are totally bulletproof.

Yeah, the interior does look pretty damn good after looking at the exterior. They look like completely different cars.

A quick once over is good, if you aren't planning on running it through inspection, and are just planning on tracking it. It doesn't have to be that inspect-y. $900 or less would probably be a fair price.

Yeah, I was planning on showing up with around $1000 and starting a decent bit lower if everything checks out
