My Cougar has a working trunk light!!!!

Kinja'd!!!

It came with one when it rolled off the assembly line, but sometime between that day and my purchasing the car, the light was removed.

It's a mercury switch powered by a 5 volt hot and a ground. I found the correct wire harness and switch a while back and finally got around to putting them in this evening. Just the remote trunk release and the underhood light and everything will be functional on the car for the first time in my entire ownership of it.

Guess that means something will fall off it soon as in the time I've owned it I've come to the realization it's cursed. Still my favorite car ever!!!!

That thing is extremely sinister looking for an older Merc...All you need is some very dim red glow from behind the front grill, and replacing the mufflers with glass packs.

I always thought those old cougars were pretty cool. A little tip, pay attention to the condition of your battery. I've seen things like disconnected/disabled because they would stay on and cause the battery to drain. That is a popular option because it is cheaper and easier than finding the real problem.

I was note aware before today that Mercuries looked so damn fine. Bless you.

The body shop that did the paint thought the car possessed. I walked in to pick her up and the lead painter said the turn signals were working with the ignition off and key on the key ring in the office.

You can pull the key out with the car in run. Common on many Ford products in the '70's and '80's as the lock cylinder got some wear... I went out and just put the cylinder into full off. It was about an eighth of an inch off. They guy had never seen it before. First time I saw it was a camp bus when I was 4 or 5.... Thought it was awesome!

The ignition switch is usually the culprit when stuff stays on if it aint the lock cylinder.
