They've decided to charge admission for the cars - $5 plus a $1.25 'ticket fee'...announced this morning at 2:30 am:

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR JUNE:

I know everyone has been anxiously awaiting this news.

Cars & Coffee - Cary will happen on June 7th. In order to cover costs associated with hosting the event there will be a $5.00 charge per vehicle plus a $1.25 service fee for the ticketing system (standard across all platforms considered). The link will be provided once I get confirmation that a few final adjustments have been made.

This fee was unanimously supported by all involved, including Waverly and representatives of the various car clubs who were involved in the decision. Waverly will not be profiting from this charge. Cars & Coffee - Cary is partnering with Wheels 4 Hope, a charity that provides vehicles for low income families in need of reliable transportation. All net proceeds will be donated to the charity.

Space for the June event will be limited to just the upper lot (exact number is not yet known but estimated at 240 spaces) near Taziki's in order to help facilitate the implementation of the new system. We will not be using the lower lot near Chik-Fil-A for June. Space needed for future events will be assessed based upon ticket sales and attendance for June. Tickets purchased can be printed or scanned directly from a smart phone. NO CASH PAYMENTS for admission will be accepted. If there is space still available tickets can be purchased on site via smart phone, Ipad, etc.

We know that not all people are going to be happy about the new fee. Nobody is required to attend Cars & Coffee. Everyone is welcome to attend as a spectator for no charge, though we will have a place to make donations to Wheels 4 Hope directly.

We welcome constructive criticism and suggestions but ask that everyone refrain from making negative comments regarding the fee. We know it is impossible to please all of the people all of the time. Suggestions for relocation are also counter-productive. Please trust that we have entertained many ideas and are doing what is best for Cars & Coffee - Cary at this time.

We hope you will all plan to join us on June 7th.

Then just a couple of minutes ago (9:15 eastern) they shut down the Facebook page.:

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

This page will be closed due to the recent developments related to making it a paid event. Cars & Coffee has always, and should always, remain a free event for all participants.

A great big thanks goes out to all involved.

EDIT: Now the FB page claims the 'shut down' announcement was bogus. Methinks there's some internal conflicts with the organizers....

Curiouser and curiouser.

hmmm yeah. To hold a C&C you need to have support from the property owners/managers and lots of volunteers for a no-cost event. Promote all you want to get free advertising out of it but it's got to be free or it will not work.

I've only been to one C&C w my car and it was at a high end car dealership. They got to promote their own stuff at the show, paid their own staff to host it, and it was a very nice event! Plus they got to load their dealership with car enthusiasts!

Sounds like someone is trying to make a quick buck honestly. I know the whole charity thing sounds good but I've got a feeling that the ticket money is just gonna go into someones pocket instead.

It sounds like they were about to end up with an empty lot, with every neighboring lot covered with cars.

Okay then, I have an ideas..

Bristol, Tennessee. Not at the circle thing. The other noisy thing.

Cost to participate is $10 for racers, $15 for trailered cars and $5 for spectators .

"Think you got a smokin' ride? Well here's your chance to prove it! Bring your car. Bring your bike. Bring your Mom's Mini-Van.

JUST BRING IT!

Roadrunner Market Street Fights gives anyone the chance to tackle the strip in legendary Thunder Valley. All street-legal vehicles, from muscle cars to minivans and motorcycles, are welcome to compete at Street Fights. The majority of events take place on Thursday evenings, with select Saturday events in 2014."

Sometimes I forget I live in a crazy redneck paradise.
