Ahh, the weekend. Good weather, cold beer, barbecues, and the price of gas shooting up to $1.27.9/litre overnight here in Alberta. In US $ that works out to (given today's exchange rate) $5.26 US/USgal.
The last time I checked the price of a barrel of oil hasn't gone up in the last 48 hours, no shortage has been created by a loss (or perceived loss) of production, and nobody working at a gas station is suddenly and temporarily getting paid more.
This is just greed.
It could be worse I suppose. Over the May long weekend it jumped to $1.32.9/litre ($5.43 US/USgal).
Bastards.
So, what's the weekend price of gas in your town?

Cheapest in Austin, TX right now is $3.26/gal. Most expensive is $3.59/gal. I'll let you convert that to Loonies.

I pay about 3.89 a gallon USD for premium (93 octane) in New Orleans. I honestly don't know what regular costs around here.

Where I live, in southern France, diesel is 1.29€/L, that's 6.7$/gallon. And regular gas (98 octane) is around 1.50€/L for the cheapest, so around 7.7$/gallon, and up to 1.7€/L in some gas station (8.8 $/gallon).

Your shitting me right? that's cheap doesn't make me feel as bad for you on your crazy import taxes. Philippines is hovering around $1.20 usd/liter.

No. Seriously gas is cheap in here, because the government subsidize them.
And diesel is even cheaper at 0.55USD.

I guess you could be right because here in canada they tax the shit out of it. over $0.60/liter is tax. gas hasn't been $0.55/liter in over 15 years.

It's supposed to be "supply & demand" but the supply is too great and the price hikes aren't significant enough to alter the demand. In reality, who's going to cancel their trip to the lake because gas went up 5 cents/L, or even 10? Nobody.
If gas went up 25 cents/L or more to adjust for increased weekend usage, it would have an impact, but it'd probably also cause a riot.
If gas was actually scarce and we actually were at risk of temporarily shortages, then the price hikes would justifiable, but there is always another tanker just down the road ready to fill us all back up.
So in the end, it's just gouging - enough to make a bit of extra profit, but not so much that people will actually rise up and take action.

$ 1.30/litre in Toronto

5 miles makes a massive difference around here. $4.09 cash in the richer areas, while going a couple miles down the road you could literally see it down to $3.69. I drive out farther to fill up more and more. The difference comes to just under $5 a fill up usually. Considering the mileage, I'm not using $5 of gas to get there and back, so it doesn't bother me to do that.
I saw NYC was $4.59/gal for 93. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that.

Just dropped to $3.61 per gallon for regular!

Whereabouts in Europe are you? :)
In Slovenia we're on 1,518 for 100 and 1,470 for 95 octane, with diesel at 1,363. All in euro per liter. And since it's the weekend, for once I don't feel like converting it for our US pals.

I'm in Finland. Average diesel price is currently 1,502.
